Oh-so-helpful unlimited open season for spring sports: Nov. 1-21.

Football playoffs: Month of November.

Chances of a soccer team that shares facilities with football getting any field space while their football team is still in the playoffs: Slim to negative.

Usefulness of a Nov. 1-21 open season for these teams: Minimal.

Now, I'm left with three obvious possibilities.

1. The powers-that-be didn't consider these little details of practicality when making the decison.

2. They saw the possibilities for conflicts but intentionally ignored them in favor of other considerations.

3. They brainstormed to find a way to make out-of-season practice for spring sports more inconvenient and of less value than the model that was then in place.

I think we'd all welcome any representatives from the decision-making body to shed some light on the rationale behind these changes; I'm sure there were practical reasons we are just not seeing from our limited standpoint.

This is not intended to be rude, but exactly where is it that you coach soccer that you cannot find a field to practice on? Surely somewhere at your school, in your district, or at least in your town/county there is enough space for 15-20 players.

You may disagree, but you're wrong!

You're absolutely right. Somewhere in my district or at least my town/county (definitely not on our campus during football), there is. Being able to practice on our own campus without having to worry about students driving or arranging transportation elsewhere is a privilege, not a right.

Complaint withdrawn...there's always a way to "just make it work."

Oh, and the boys on the soccer team who also play football certainly don't need that practice time for a spring sport either...or perhaps their football coaches will give them time to go to an off-campus site and split practice time. Problems solved. Simple.

Y'know, you go off and think about something while sitting in meetings and things just keep occurring to you...PMSL Cup is in mid-November and SCSCL Cup is in early December.
