COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina women's soccer team earned its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid as the 2010 selections to the 64-team tournament were announced Monday afternoon on ESPNU. The Gamecocks (14-5-4) will travel to the Charlottesville, Va., regional to take on UNC Greensboro (19-1-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

The winner of the South Carolina-UNCG match will face the winner of No. 2 Virginia and Lehigh on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Cavaliers and Mountain Hawks play Friday at 5 p.m.

UNC Greensboro enters the tournament with a 19-1-1 record having won 16 straight games. The Southern Conference Champions have lone blemishes on their schedule on an early season trip to California with a 0-0 draw to Southern California and a 2-0 loss to Cal State Fullerton. The teams have two common opponents this season in Wake Forest and Furman. South Carolina defeated the two teams by identical 1-0 scores, while the Spartans defeated Wake Forest, 2-1, and Furman, 4-1.

Virginia earned a No. 2 national seed and will host the opening rounds after finishing 13-3-2 (7-2-1 ACC) as the third placing team in the ACC. South Carolina head coach Shelley Smith and Virginia head coach Steve Swanson are familiar with each other. Smith was an assistant coach under Swanson at Dartmouth in 1995 in her first season as a collegiate coach.

Lehigh earned the Patriot League's automatic berth with a 1-0 victory over Army. The Mountain Hawks enter with an 11-4-4 record and are advancing to the program's first NCAA Tournament.

Brutal first round draw for USC. I think the committee could have been a little kinder to them.

I think the SEC is closing the gap on the ACC.....apparently the NCAA committee doesn't think so.

How long has the UNCG coach been there? Is he a possible candidate for Clemson's opening? If UNCG beats or comes close to beating SC and having beaten Wake seems like he would be a good candidate for Clemson or does he have long term ties to UNCG?

USC 2
UNC-G 1

Great win for the Lady Gamecocks. Tough first round draw for the girls from Greensboro.

I'm over a thousand miles from being an expert, but I thought UNC-G was among the best-coached teams I've seen this season. The coach got an enormous amount of performance from his talent base.

I don't know how many years Eddie has been at UNC-G but he has been there awhile and has established a very strong program; they have played and beaten ACC teams in regular season and competed strong against other schools across the country. he is a great coach and recruits the right girls to play his system...i don't know if he wants to leave but he could coach anywhere in my opinion...i have been on the other side of the field against him
