Discoveries Soccer Club names Dominic Wren as it First Full-time Executive Director

Rock Hill, South Carolina – April 4, 2011 – Discoveries Soccer Club (DSC) has hired the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Youth Coach of the Year Dominic “Dom” Wren as its first full-time Executive Director.

Coach Wren has been a coach with DSC since 1998 and will continue to serve as Coach of DSC ’95 Green Boys Region III Premier team.

Coach Wren is the past recipient of SCYSA Coach of the Year, NSCAA Region III Youth Coach of the Year, NSCAA Region South High School Coach of the Year, and NSCAA National Youth Coach of the Year. Wren was named US Youth Soccer (USYS) Region III Coach of the Year in February 2010.

Wren also coached DSC ‘90 Green Boys to four (4) State Cup Championships, a Region III League Championship, 2009 Southern Regional III Tournament Championship and the 2009 USYS U18 Boys National Championship.

The thirty-two (32) year old Wren, a native of Weymouth, England, played for the Weymouth Football Club and the British Colleges National team, was recruited by Winthrop University where he played on the men’s soccer team for four (4) years and was a team captain. Wren graduated from Winthrop with a BA in Physical Education in 2002, completed his Masters in 2004 and currently teaches physical education at Dutchman Creek Middle School in Rock Hill.

Wren also serves as head coach of Northwestern High School Boys varsity soccer team, which in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 won the AAAA State Championship and was named 2009 National High School Champions by ESPNrise. Coach Wren will retain his duties as coach of Northwestern High School boy’s varsity soccer team while serving as DSC first full-time executive director.


As the first full-time Executive Director, Dom Wren’s responsibilities will include directing all DSC activities and staff including coaching, tournaments, camps, fundraising, recreational soccer programs and will serve as DSC’s primary liaison with Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism, SCYSA and US Youth Soccer (USYS).

Discoveries Soccer Club, a 2009 Soccer America Top 40 youth soccer club, is a 501 (c) 3 non profit youth soccer organization and is located in Rock Hill, SC. DSC is affiliated with the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association and the United States Youth Soccer Association and provides a high-quality soccer experience for boys and girls in U9 through U18 age divisions that compete in various regional and statewide leagues in the Southeast, including local recreational leagues, the Region III Premier League, the South Carolina State Challenge League (SCSCL), the President's Medal Soccer League (PMSL), and the Sandlapper League.

Will Coach Wren still be at Northwestern as head coach? Will he still teach?

He will still be the Head coach of Northwestern High School but he will no longer teach.

Great for Dom! Does anyone know how much this position pays? Time requirements?
