Apparently, we will be going to 52 teams in 4A after next year.
Problem is, they will be putting 8 teams in our region, making it more
difficult to make the playoffs, while some regions will still only have 6.
Please let me know how everyone feels about these suggestions and should we take them to the SCHSL.
Add a round and let the top 40 teams in. Reseed upperstate
and lowerstate in a coaches meeting. Bottom 16 teams
(8upperstate/8lowerstate) would play an opening round game.
If they don't like the idea of reseeding (even though it is done in
2a/1a) have the 4s play home to the 5s. That way, teams in 8 teams
regions would still have a chance.
There is no bad in this. Start playoffs one week earlier, two games
per week, we are one of only 3 contact sports and even basketball (a
non-contact sport) doesn't play more the 2 in a week during the
playoffs. The SCHSL makes extra money off the extra 8 games as does the host.
To keep adding schools without adding playoff spots is crazy.
Heck, why not reseed everyone and let everyone in? The SCHSL will make
a bunch of money on the extra 15 games (or 105 games all divisions boys
and girls) as will the hosts. This will also allow teams to be seeded
on how good they are not some stupid alignment that never lets every region see every other region in round 1.
It would raise a bunch of money if you do it in the 3 team sports that
are single elimination (volleyball, basketball and soccer).
