GOALS!!! Wando 4:2 Cardinal Newman

Fast and furious is the action in the last quarter hour at the Cup. Junior midfielder Hunter Danna hits a strike from 20 yards which appears goal-bound to Wilczewski's left but he leaps high and wide to parry it over crossbar. The resulting corner is well placed by Andrew Eskinazi, and Trent Rieflin buries his chance into the twine. The Cardinals fail to capitalize on a scoring opportunity in their area which trickles ever so slowly to the left side of the goal before second half goalkeeper Joe Wichmann can make the play. On the counter-attack up the left wing, sophomore defender Jackson Karolczyk crosses to a forward-rushing Hamilton Carlin. Carlin lays it off to Eskinazi, who puts it away from the back side.

FT - Wando 4:2 Cardinal Newman

Day 2, Match 1 is now in the books in a very entertaining and well played match by both teams. That's the great thing about this tournament: these kids gave their all for 80 minutes, and we were lucky enough to be here to witness the quality on the pitch. The two goals in two minutes for the Warriors with less than 10 to play were just too much for Cardinal Newman to overcome, and they suffer their first defeat since last spring.

OK everyone, it's the Dave Easley lesson on soccer cliches:
Repeat after me:

fired four towards the twine
and looks to be in position to equalize
on the scoreboard with the equalizer
the receiving end of a deflected corner kick
A ball handled in the area results in a spot kick
fires a beauty towards the frame
The Warriors draw first blood
on the stroke of halftime
grenade takes down a Card in the box for a shot from the spot
the warriors knot it up,
finds the back of the net
buries his chance into the twine

Lexington have a Gray Griffin goal called back on a free kick as offsides was given by AR Steve Abbott after the goalkeeper dropped the save and it was hammered home by one of the Wildcats. It's almost halftime ...

Its a shame that B-E has been missing one of thier best players (Khouri) this year, they have still been very good in thier matches.
