RSL is first-rate from top to bottom, and just got a little bit better.

Sebastian Velasquez who also played for the DSC Mutinty and before that CESA, was drafted by Real Salt Lake as well.

Tremendous to see S.C.'s own Enzo Martinez (Northwestern HS / Discoveries SC) get drafted earlier today in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake with the #17 pick.

Then to have another Palmetto State product, in Sebastian Velasquez (Eastside HS), selected #36 by RSL in the second round is amazing.

Velasquez played at Greenville High the year GHS went 27-0 and #1 in nation (2007?). He scored a goal in a 3-1 state title game over Socastee. People forget that SHS had 2 own goals in that game. SV then transferred to Eastside but may have never played a minute (eligibility related I think). Spartanburg Methodist got a steal in him as he could have played D1 (with the right direction). Good to have he and Enzo back and go Real Salt Lake!

Interesting opinion from Joe Maureci of ESNN:

Grade B-
Real Salt Lake - They selected 3 interesting players. While some pundits exclaimed that Enzo Martinez (#17) was the steal of the draft, I think he went appropriately. Real Salt Lake is the best place for Martinez with their ball control style. However, Martinez has holes in his game so he'll be able to develop without having the pressure as a starter at first. Diogo de Almeida (#24) is a poor defender who may make the team but only as reserve and practice fodder. There were much better options available. I have no comment on Sebastian Velasquez since I've never seen him play (the only player drafted that I haven't seen at least 3 times).

Real Salt Lake's first pick in 2012 appears a winner on and off the field
