FYI: HSSR has been "promoting" high school athletics in SC for decades. The biggest gripe against it historically has been that some/most of its copy is "advertorial." In other words, you advertise, you get covered.
The selections can be very subjective. I've known several COYs in other sports who were absolutely undeserving.
That said ...
In looking at this list, I don't have many problems. It's tough to pick a high school league all-state team that covers all enrollments without leaving some very good players off, and the individual honorees make reasonable sense.
Now, all of the honorees get to be recognized at the HSSR spring sports banquet in Columbia.

How are you going to only have 1 player from JL Mann, only 2 from wando, but 3 from academic magnet. This doesn't really make sense

Like the earlier poster wrote-you pay and you get promoted-back in the day all-state teams werent chosen until after the Championships were over and if you werent on one of the final four teams you rarely got a mention

Ok, I'll chime in on this one.... first, we do not send any money to the High School Sports Report. I just finished my 9th year at Academic Magnet and to my knowledge, the soccer program has not sent anything to them. I know when i played, they were the premier reporting agency. However, since i have been coaching (11 years now) SCSoccer.com has taken that title at least for soccer.

As for their All-State Team... after our game was over, the reporter for the HSSR asked me which of my players were chosen for All-State. I gave him the names of my three players who were selected to the SCHSSCA All-State team. Perhaps other coaches picked different players than the ones who made the SCHSSCA All-State team. Some are obviously doubled up.... but in the excitement of winning and the moment, the way i understood the question was "who was selected All-State" not "who do you want to be on the HSSR All-State team".

I hope this clears some thing up.
