A great article on the ramifications of poor judgement when using social media as a potential/existing college athlete. From Varsity Edge Recruiting:
I often talk about the long-term benefits of being a college athlete once your career concludes. Athletics teach us time management, hard work, and learning to work together with different people. We learn how to fail and how to succeed! It's these traits that employers often seek out when you graduate and apply for jobs and it's those traits that should help you succeed and excel at whatever job
you do. But things you do as a college athlete can have negative consequences if you are not careful. A female college soccer player was recently suspended for making remarks about the Penn. State situation on Twitter. AS Jim Rome says, "the internet is in ink!" While her account has been deleted, there are multiple news outlets running with this story. Years from now, a simple Google search will bring hundreds if not thousands of references to this story that this athlete will never be able to hide from. Things like Facebook or Twitter didn't exist 10 years ago, but they exist now and it's important that you understand that posting a simple status or Tweet can have extremely negative consequences for years to come!
