Pretty good article and video from local ABC channel 4.

http://www.abcnews4.com/story/20606709/cofc-star-hoping-extend-career-battery-roster

DeSilva from CofC was also trying out and word is did very well. It won't be easy for the CofC boys to make the team. The Battery is one of the top non-MLS teams in the country and when they hold trials, they literally have hundreds of players from all over the world who want to try out. They even had 3 Cubans at the trial who defected when the national team was in Toronto last year.

You think the Cuban Connection might have something to do with the fact that former Battery and now Seattle MF Osvaldo Alonso followed the same path? Battery would "kill" for another Alonso.

Oh, no doubt. In fact, the Battery also have had 2 other lesser known Cubans in the past, forward Lester More was on the same team with Alonso and then defender Yeniel Bermudez was on the team the following 2 years. You know they have to talk to each other. And it doesn't hurt that Charleston is a convenient stopping off point on their way down to Miami, where all Cubans go after they defect. The Alonso "jackpot" has been golden for the Battery as they have a pretty strong relationship with Seattle now, the 2 clubs sharing several players with each other in the past several years. That trial in Las Vegas that Ralphie mentioned in the video was Seattle's trial and the Battery coaching staff was there too scouting players. The Battery also mines Jamaica pretty heavily through Ed Khouri's contacts. They were down there in December scouting players.....there's a long list of Jamaicans who have played for the Battery.
