So how many of you have actually been to Gilbert?

I have because I live out this way. At times it smells like chicken shoo-shoo! It's not exactly a soccer shrine (or football palace for that matter). But, it's a nice little stadium. Just hard to get there because it is a ways off I-20. It's 35 minutes from downtown Columbia (25 miles). Gilbert's boys team played for the AA State Championship two years ago and lost in the AA Upper State Championship last season so the locals do know a little something about the sport.

Don't forget, It was only a year ago that the girls program was up and coming.

Irmo and Lexington in the finals will help attendance

I would not expect a big crowd for the other matches

Coach Savitz will coach his last match for Irmo at Gilbert

Wonder how many fans would come to Stone to watch his last match as Irmo coach?

Most all high games are played on football fields between 56-60 so size is not a factor ; unless you have a girl who can wing it from sidelines. Then you get an instant corner on every throw from 20 yards in

That was the point that I was trying to make to all of the arrogant elitists that are complaining about the dimensions of the field.
Gilberts field is not any smaller than most of the fields in the state. I think that there is one school in the Columbia area that plays on a short field because the football end zones had to be shortened.

Would like to know why all the Gilbert bashing. Sounds like they were willing to host the event nobody else would or could. We should be thanking them. Am I a little biased because I live in the area yes,is this the ideal location, no. Please direct the anger in the proper place and work toward getting the location changed for next year...

Well, thanks GHS for hosting the State Championships this year. That being said, I think the facts of the SCHSL get in the way of their own argument about Stone Stadium hosting the finals.

For a State Championship weekend, we should not be having a discussion about the field. This should be a total non-factor.

I am less concerned with the venue than why the girls must always play on Friday. If they cannot play all 7 championship matches on Saturday, then they should rotate the schedule and let the girls play on Saturday every other year.

Now that would be a Title IX issue... You always give the boys the prime time slots/days.

Come on guys. Why would South Carolina want to host the soccer games. They only recruit one token player from this state every year anyway. No incentive.
