Does anyone know if JV are to go to OT after a regulation tie or straight to PK's? We have had some discrepancies, where jv boys have gone straight to pk's and girls went to OT. The ref of girl game said it was a new rule this year.

I believe that if there is a Varsity game following, then OT is not allowed. Pk's is based on time restraints before the Varsity game.

If there is a game that is of the same level following, say JV girls then JV Boys, or Middle Girls then Middle Boys, OT and then PK's is allowed.

Okay, apparently it was not stated at 2 coaches meetings and we are trying to get confirmation on what is right. We did have a varsity game after the jv game and the ref said it was to go to OT.

I was at the Greenville rules meeting in July, so my memory may be hazy, but I remember thinking it was not a good rule, potentially delaying a varsity game for a JV tiebreaker

We were told that JV tiebreaker rules would mirror varsity rules this year. We had a JV game earlier this week that went to two 5-minute OT periods and a PK shootout.

I posted this on the boys thread...

THe rule has not changed. The varsity match must start on time, and that means kick off (not warmup, coin toss, captain meetings etc.) If you do a 5:30/7:00 set up, and the JV match ends at 6:45 or later in a tie, the game is over, there is no way you can hope to fit in a coin toss and OT in under 10 minutes. Remember the Varsity coin toss has to be done no later then 5 minutes before the start of the match.

If JV does 35 minute halves on the 5:30/7:00 split then forget it there is no OT. If they do 30 minute haves then it is doable, but the emphasis has always been the same:

The Varsity match MUST start (kick off) on time.
