Should video replay be used by the high school league to suspend players? I know a player was suspended this past week upon video evidence of a foul that was not even called in the actual game. Some teams don't even have the luxury of a video of their games...So what do yall think about this?

No...I know this may sound wrong but every game has situations that both teams have to deal with...one being the referees (regardless of how good or poor their officiating may be) - we should not have to resort to video because this is high school soccer and not college - If there is any discrepancies with this the referees should acquire a fourth official to assist these situations... but from what im hearing many teams cannot even recieve three referees at their games

that would make the game so much longer. there are so many plays that are questionable and could go either way. it would be terrible for the game. the players need to quit b****ing and play

If you're asking if video replay should be used in HS soccer, no.

If you're asking for opinion of whether school or league officials should suspend a player for a foul that wasn't called by the referee, but there is video evidence, then yes. Just because the referee doesn't see/call it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. After all, a picture can be worth a thousand words.

The problem with video replay is, it can incriminate one player and not another. The video might cause a kid to get suspended without proper oppurtunity to defend his situation. Video shouldn't be used, period.

on20s,

First think about what types of fouls are grounds for suspensions. Those are fouls that somehow result in red cards, albeit straight or accumulation of yellows.

With that as a frame of reference, please explain to me how video could incriminate one player and not afford the opportunity to defend his position. It's really very simple, did (or in this case, should have resulted) the foul result in a red card, answer yes. It doesn't matter what was going on between players up to that moment.

(With that said however, I would hope that the league officials reviewed the entire video to at least get a feeling of the flavor of the match.)

Well, from what I understand, the referee makes the final call on the field, and it cannot be argued or taken back. Why should this same philosophy not also apply to video?
It's a touchy subject, but I still say that video should stay out of high school play. The game could become too bogged down with technicalities, and after all, this is only high school.
