It was good to call off the dogs but he should have let him score in this instance. The other team couldn't stop him so there really isn't anything wrong with letting him keep playing. He might not have even scored again for all we know.

i agree with the coach's decision on this matter. if i were Jason, (the player) i would want my goals to be important goals. there is a major difference in scoring 43 goals (example) in a season against really poor teams, and 43 against quality opposition. jason and his dad both know that he could have achieved this honor, but this instance certainly shows the maturity of both father and son.

also, there comes a time in an athlete's career when honor and integrity become more important than statitics.

I believe in this situation that the right decision would have been to allow the son to go for the record...The intentions were not to hurt the other teams feelings, but to have a mark in the schools history...

What's the importance of a goal if it's an easy goal? Scoring records in high school don't say much, and if it's building up easy goal after easy goal then it's just a number. Leave the scoring records to college and beyond.

I would have let him score one more goal to tie the record and then call the dogs off.

i could agree with that Cab. i'm not saying that Coach V would have been wrong to leave him in, i just admire his character for doing what he thought was right. everyone can argue that it was right or wrong, but regardless you have to respect him for his decision.

My point was that he should coach the game in regards to the game, not to a (almost)meaningless scoring record for one player. I'd say he made the right move.

This situation is full of what if's.

Would if he tore his ACL in college and his career ended with that goal?
Would if he stayed on the field and had a career ending injury?
Would if a monster Spanish exchange student came to the school the following year and crushed his record and it was rendered meaningless?
