Some other bits of info gathered......
Of 17 World Cup tournaments the US has played in 7......The US's lone loss in the 1934 World cup was to the eventual winner, Italy......The US lost by one goal apiece to Brazil and Germany in 1994 and 2002 respectively. Both those teams went on to play in the finals.......The 1st World Cup tournament in 1930 featured 13 teams........Starting in 1998, the tournament now fields 32 teams...... Many consider the 1950 1-0 defeat of England as the biggest win in US World Cup history......Another win of note is the 1994 2-1 descision over Colombia......This 2006 World Cup will be the US's 5th in a row, 8th overall.....The US has been out scored 45-24......The US has been shutout 6 times while recording 4 shutout's for itself....The most lopsided loss was a 7-1 trouncing by Italy in the 1934 World Cup......The biggest margin of victory for the US was 3 goals, which happened twice in the 1930 World Cup against Belgium and Paraguay.....Bert Patenaude (Fall River, Mass.) was the third-leading scorer in the 1930 tournament and was the first player to tally three goals in World Cup play.....The 1994 World Cup hosted by the US saw 3.5 million fans in attendance breaking the previous record set by Italy in 1990 by over 1 million.....Best finish by the US team was a 1930 third place finish......Worst finish, 1998, last place.....The host team has won the Cup 6 times.
