I agree with you Crabb..........havent had numbers on both sides since the program was formed in '01 and when they ordered new jerseys this year, that wasnt even brought up. I brought it up, and "they" looked at me like i was the dumbest person to ever walk on earth..........so who is to blame, the coaches, AD's, or the refs who for number of years never said anything about that, but nearly cancelled a game bcuz the goal box was 1/2 yard off??

18 yards is exactly that...18 yards. Not 17 1/2 not 16, 19, 20....18. I'd cancel it too. If you want your program to be taken seriously you might want to take a little more pride in the things you can control.

as for my part i've done all in my power to get our program some respect as far as soccer, and many who know me know from when i played to now coaching i do, but as for that incident, they had some football coach do it and their excuse to making it shorter was that they ran out of paint. Thats just the lack of respect form within that many programs in the state suffer unnecessarily. Fortunately now they're starting to show more respect

The AD and the Coach should know the rule concerning the numbers. The ref's should have reported the situation to the league office. The SCHSL can only address what they are aware of.

As far as canceling a match due to improper field alignment, thats the same situation as with the numbers. The official's report the issue to the high school league and they deal with the school to correct the problem.

Until this year, our jersey's did not have numbers on both sides and our shorts had nothing! Glad to know the ref's did not know this rule or at least were generous! What would you have made us do, sharpie our jersey's?

Actually...good officials will address this problem with the coach.

True but more times than not the same officials will not be back at that school for awhile if at all, and the coach may elect to not address the problem. If the high school league gets involved, the AD will be notified and the problem will get resolved.

Question regarding throw-ins? Is a defensive player allowed to stand in front of the throw-in as long as the defensive player does not move or jump? A yellow card was received in a game last night for not giving the offensive player 3 yards in which to throw. Is that correct? I would have expected the ref to warn the player first rather than issuing a card for such and offense.

Yes it is a yellow card offense, but in the spirit of the game I think if this was a first offense then a warning would have been justified.

Do you have a little more of an explanation? Is 3 yards actually spoken too in the rule? Can you lead me to where I can find this rule so that I understand it fully. Thanks!

I looked up the rule and did not see anything about 3 yards. I guess it is the judgement of the official if he was interfering with the throw-in. Here is the rule:

Rule 15-1-3

An opponent shall neither interfere with nor in any way impede the actions of the thrower while the throw-in is being taken.

Penalty: An official shall administer a caution for unsporting conduct.
