I'm not convinced this is the best process, when two and three guys from a team take up spots on an "All-State" team. I normally wouldn't say much, but I have a legit case for a kid who belongs on this team. I know I am in Darlington, which is not exactly the SC mecca of soccer. However, I have a kid who scored 19 goals and had 21 assists as a sophomore and scored 45 goals and 8 assists this year as a Junior. (He didn't move to Darlington until his sophomore year) He is one of the key reasons that Darlington has placed second in the region the past two years. This kid is originally from Jamaica and has unbelievable foot skills, shooting ability, would start, and be a stud on ANY team in the state. I scheduled a strong schedule this year outside our region to get him some exposure in the hopes he would get some recognition. Talk to the coaches from Waccamaw, West Florence, NMB, and many, many more and they will tell you the quality player he is.
I understand that some schools have multiple players that are deserving, but before those are looked at, other quality players should be considered.
I don't know much about other divisions, but our All-State team for 3A was pretty much not representative of our state.
I know this sounds like I am complaining, but in reality, I am an objective person. I have one kid who has the talent and skills to be on this team.
I know this can't change anything, but I wanted to express my disappointment with the way things are currently done and the fact that a very high quality player most likely didn't even get much discussion because of where he is from and the fact that he doesn't play club ball due to circumstances beyond his control.
