Beaufort High 3, Summerville 0
For now, Beaufort High remains the No. 10 Class AAAA team in the state. But after its 3-0 win over No. 5 Summerville, that ranking could improve this weekend.
"Tonight was one of the first times all season we have put together two halfs of solid play," coach Jon Greenlee said.
Adam Smumk's second-half play helped the Eagles break a scoreless halftime tie and grab the Region 8-AAAA win.
Beaufort's first goal came at the 30 minute mark off a Nash Brace penalty kick after Smumk was taken down in the box. Smumk found Ashby West 10 minutes later to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Erik Jaramillo scored Beaufort's final goal on Smumk's second assist.
"Adam had had one of those nights," coach Jon Greenlee said. "He played a great defensive role and added a great deal of offense as well."
Erik Mozzo recorded 13 saves.
