Randolph and Grissom High School in Huntsville, Alabama are co-hosting the 6th Annual Southern Soccer Challenge, Friday-Saturday, Mar 27-28 2009. This is a boys varsity tournament. The format is eight teams, double elimination, cup and medal flights. All teams play 3 games. Games are full length, with ties decided by two five minute ‘golden goal’ overtime periods and if necessary, kicks from the mark. Teams play one game Friday, and two games Saturday.

Georgia teams can request a waiver from GHSAA to allow a second game on the same date, although I've never had that confirmed.

Games will be played at the John Hunt Soccer Complex. Game fields are full-size, tournament quality, hybrid Bermuda, overseeded with perennial rye. Locker rooms are provided for all teams.

If interested in this tournament, contact me at the info listed below. Tournament fee is $275. A coaches hospitality room is provided for participating coaches and visiting college coaches. Each player receives a drawstring equipment bag with tournament logo. Our aim is to attract top high school programs from various states and provide quality matches. Visiting college coaches are provided a list of participating teams and rosters.

2008 tournament teams were: Brentwood(Brentwood, TN), Grissom (Huntsville,AL), Habersham Central (Mt. Airy, GA), North Gwinnett (Suwanne, GA), Putnam City North (Oklahoma City, OK), Randolph (Huntsville, AL), Rogers (Rogers, AR) and Wade Hampton (Greenville, SC).

Teams flying to Huntsville will find a medium size airport with very easy connections. The John Hunt Soccer Complex has easy access,on site parking and games played on adjoining fields.

To date, we have commitments from Grissom (Huntsville, AL) and Randolph (Huntsville, AL). We are looking for six more, very firm commitments, to the Southern Soccer Challenge 2009.

Teams committing by email or phone will be contacted by email and/or phone with the administration information: registration form, registration fee, hotels, national sanction information and tournament schedule (when I get it set up).

Requests to play early or late game Friday, and an opponent you may or may not want to play will be made, if at all possible. I can't promise, but to date all requests have been met. Check out www.ghssoccer.s5.com which has the 2008 tournament with format and results.
