Hurst stumped me with this question (McCoy, I've been told you cannot answer):

Fort Mill is on a 49 game conference win streak. Who was the last team to beat them?

Just figured it out. Trick question - they have never lost a region game since they went AAAA. Right?

Absolutely not! That's like playing tag with Superman!!!

Hint - they lost 3-2 in OT to this #15th ranked team. FM went on to finish the season #4 and avenged the loss 3-0.

Hint: The team that beat them played and lost to Airport this year and is a 4A team.

Whoa, I won't give it away but I looked it up. If I can read, how did they get into the same region?

Back in the dark ages, before dinosaurs roamed the earth, there weren't many AAAA teams in the greater Charlotte metro area, and region 3 extended WAY down south...

I remember it well, at least I think I do. My eldest, now a nursing student at Clemson, was a freshman on the varsity. We opened region play in 2004 at this venue, had a 1 goal lead going into the final minute, got whistled for a handball in the box, and went on to lose in overtime. But won 9 straight after that, took our first region title, and have been rolling since.

It was a lot easier when you checked out SA's schedule and realized that they had one gallon too little in the tank against everyone except.....

Don't you love the view from The Ridge? "Our motto at Blue Ridge"

We've got 12 wins, what are you talking about! I'm dressing up as Wade Hampton and coming to your house for Halloween!

Isn't it a 49-match region win streak for the Yellow Jackets?

3/12/04 @ Ridge View, 2-3 (ot) L

2008 (10-0)
2007 (10-0)
2006 (10-0)
2005 (10-0)
2004 (9-1) -- lost the first region match of the year to Ridge View and won nine consecutive matches that season

If you had said it was a "49" game streak, I would have guessed Ridge View right off the bat!

Dale: Come dressed like that and you will get tricked (maybe I will dress up like Count Lexington or Madame Irmo!)

Nah. Just old data. The girls have continued playing.

Yep, back in the good old days, before 2004, FM used to get royally clobbered by Northwestern, Ridge View, Spring Valley...

my question is this:

How good is the region that Fort Mill plays in now?

There are a few teams in South Carolina that play in weak regions that have had tremendously long region streaks.

We tend to consider region 3 to be relatively weak. Clover and Northwestern have given us the toughest region matches so far. We have yet to play Nation Ford. 2004 was tough with Spring Valley, Ridge View and Northwestern. 2005 had only NW for competition, then Clover joined AAAA last year. In 4 region matches, Clover has taken us to PKs twice and OT once. Clover is the team of the future in region 3.

I think R3 is a mid to upper region in AAAA. R2 is tough and I'm impartial to R4 as well, but they can hang with the top four of the rest pretty well in my opinion. Just my opinion

it happens quite often in the lower level classifications that a dominant team can have a long region winning streak.

Waccamaw and Bishop England have both cruised through their regions without any losses for years.

Hilton Head High has not lost a region game since moving to AAA.

Hilton Head Prep has not lost a region game since 2004.
