I see where the top four remain the same. Riverside, Myrtle Beach, Bluffton, and Blythewood dropped. B-C, JLM, NMB, Daniel, and Wilson all move up. What is Region 3 like this year?

Very well played game on both sides Rivalries are always close. It definatly was a wake-up call for us breaking a 11 game winning streak, keeping us humble going into play-offs.

Goals:
A.Sharpe (2) BHS
R.Gianneli (1) RV
E.Moore (1) RV

sorry if i spelt any of the RV's players names wrong!

Game recaps are always tricky, depending on the perspective of the writer. This is from the Porter Gaud perspective, as it was pulled from their web page.

Quote:

The Porter-Gaud boy’s varsity soccer team came up on the short end of a 2 – 1 over-time game Thursday nigh against #1 ranked Pinewood Prep. The game was the last in the regular season for both teams as they now move onto the SCISA State Playoffs beginning Monday May 5th.

The game was evenly played in the first half as neither team would be able to find the back of the net. Cyclone Senior Keeper Dan Gabriel made 4 saves in the first half as Pinewood out shot Porter-Gaud 10 – 5.

The Porter-Gaud defense was again solid in the back led by Senior’s James Poulnot, Garret Hamontree, and Drew McAvoy.

The second half was much the same for the first 10 minutes as the teams went back and forth. The Cyclones would finally break through in the 51st minute as Freshman Tradd Lovern found the back of the net off a cross from Senior Christopher Appleby. The goal was Lovern’s third of the season and put the Cyclones up 1 – 0.

The goal seemed to wake up Pinewood as they started to dominate the run of play. They out-shot Porter-Gaud 17 – 5 in the second half and 27 – 10 for the game. Cyclone Sophomore Keeper Jacob Kupferman made 13 saves in the second half keeping Pinewood off the board.

Pinewood was finally able to beat Kupferman and the Cyclone defense as they were awarded a questionable penalty kick in the 70th minute. Malcom Reed would step up to take the kick. Kupferman guessed correctly and made the initial save but could not stop Reed on the rebound tying the score at 1 – 1 with 10 minutes to play.

Pinewood would continue to attack but could not beat the Cyclones defense nor keeper and the score would be 1 – 1 at the end of regulation. The two teams would award the supportive crowd with some extra soccer, two 5-minute overtime periods.

Pinewood came out strong again and were awarded with a questionable free-kick from 25 yards out in the first overtime. Pinewoods Malcom Reed would be on the end of the free-kick, heading it past Kupferman for a 2 – 1 Pinewood lead.

The lead would stand up despite the efforts of Senior’s William Bouch, Devon Ball, Ben Muller, and Freshman Weston Stitt to equalize. Porter-Gaud could not find the back of the net to tie the game up and the final would be Pinewood 2, Porter-Gaud 1 after overtime.

With the loss Porter-Gaud finishes the regular season at 16 – 5 overall and 6 – 4 in the Region. A terrific record for a young team that graduated 13 players from last year’s team. A real accomplishment and credit to the boy’s for their hard work and dedication to the season.

Porter-Gaud will now set their sights on the SCISA State Playoffs as they travel to play Cardinal Newman on Monday May 5th in the Quarter-Finals. Game is tentatively set for 7pm.

Interesting to read, Pinewood outshot PG 27-10 throughout the match, yet both of Pinewood's goals were the result of "questionable" calls. One thing I can definitely agree with, the referee team did not have one of the better nights in the low country.

Missing in the re-cap above is the 2nd goal scored by Pinewood in regulation. Goal is scored. Much debate from fans and players about it being off side. AR never flinched. Referee went to AR, probably more to remove the players, but discussed with the AR. Signaled for the kick-off, awarding the goal. Referee went to quiet the coach, talked to him briefly. Went back to the AR. Waved off the goal and game went to OT. Not the best sequence of events for the referee.

fantastic game on both sides. BHS 1-0 at half with RV scoring 2 quick goals with under 15 mins to go. But BHS got the equalizer late. Pk's were basically 1 sides.
Goals made by Aaron Mayes for BHS and Jordan Stovall, Steven Olsen and Kyle Dela Merced in Pk's. RV keeper blocked 2 pk's including 1 which he was called off the line and made the save again. Again great game by both sides
