On the Coast;

Socastee 4
Myrtle Beach 1

I didnt see the game, but the report is that Socastee came out to play in the game to decide the region.

North Myrtle Beach 2
Waccamaw 0

NMB hands Waccamaw their only shutout of the season. Waccamaw had the most opportunities, but simply could not finish. NMB took advantage of their opportunities and put two in the net toward the end of the first half.

Good luck in the playoffs to all the teams on the coast.

Does anybody know the Dreher scores against Lugoff-Elgin and Eau Claire? If they won both, who is region champ? Blythewood or Dreher?

Dreher beat LE 3-0 last night. Last Friday they were beating Eau Claire ~10-0 at half time and the game was called at that point. I believe Eau Claire did not have enough players to continue.
Not sure what the region tie breaker is since Dreher and Blythewood split their games against each other. If it's goal differential in head to head games, Dreher would win.

Since South Aiken beat Aiken that puts their region record at 7-3, granted Lexington beats White Knoll they will be 7-3 also. Since the tie-breaker for Region 4 is non-region record, will that put SA at the #2 seed, with a 6-5-1 Non-Region record, whereas Lexington is currently 4-6 Non-Region with Greenwood High still on the slate?

Do South Aiken's European results count towards their non-region record? Do any tournament results, or is it just regular season games?

Thank you Freehold.

The rivalry between Barnwell and Wade Hampton is one of the best in AA. My kids know they have to play their best to win because they know your guys are going to give it everything they got as well. It was one of the best games we played all year. Good luck in the playoffs!!

I believe that its a tie in the region so technically its a shared region championship. But due to playoff seeding the tie-breaker between both Blythewood and Dreher was won by Dreher making them the #1 seed in the region. Great season by both teams a 3rd game would have been a great game to watch.

South Aiken wins the tie breaker over Lexington because they won once over Irmo. There is a point system before the non region tie breaker.

Is a goal really called back if a player is offside? It's never a goal to begin with, technically. The other "goal" was called back because SA's goalie was being obstructed when he tried to get around a play to come out for the throw.

The refs did a good job that game. They played advantage and allowed physical play without it getting to bad. Compliments to them for a job well done.

Both Aiken and SA played hard. It was a good game.

Hilton Head won because of better non-region record. They did not really play anybody outside of region and Blufton played numerous teams in 4A and lost. Something needs to change on the way they do tie breakers. Also, Bluffton beat Hilton Head in regulation 2-1 the first game and Hilton Head beat Bluffton 2-1 in PK's and they treat that the same. I feel that if you beat somebody in regulation, it should count more that beating somebody in PK's.

That is correct. Hilton Head won because of regular season (not including tournament) loses. They lost to Bluffton and Bluffton lost to Hilton Head and Christian Academy. Bluffton is 17-5-1 and Hilton Head I believe is 13-2.

Sure you could. Just use it in the two games that were split and max it out at a three goal limit per game. Many club tournaments use goal differential tiebreakers maxed at 3. It's not perfect but it's simple and better than the inconsistent and hidden system that is in place now.

BC vs RH game was a very sloppy game i thought. neither team impressed me at all. questionable call on a PK i might add. Best thing about the game may have just been that free kick by a BC player.

By the way, I thought there were 80minutes in a game? each half was stopped at least 2-3 minutes short. And this must have been the smallest field i have ever seen a game played on, i was actually excited about coming to see the cage..

But anyways, good win for BC, although, i feel like i deserve my money back after what seems to have been a shortened, and ugly game.

Silver Bluff 2(1)-1(1) Ridgeland

Great game by both of these squads. I'm proud of our boys who went out there and played extremely great and made it tough for Silver Bluff to get the win.Enrique Buruca scored his 16th goal of the season for the Jags. Although we lost, it hows how much we've improved, being that we lost 10-1 earlier in the season. Great job by the Bulldogs, extremely classy and showed great sportsmanship throughout the game. Good luck to them in the playoffs

That is the most rational and brilliant thought I think I've ever heard. It's amazing that some regions still have a system that takes into account out of region games. Coaches of good teams are obviously going to try and schedule hard of out region teams and the system now punishes those teams. Say two teams split the regular season (win all other region games) and the scores are 1-0 and 1-4. Does the team getting beat 4-1 really deserve the top seed because they won more out of region games against a cupcake schedule? Seeding in the playoffs matters too much to be left up to a dumb tiebreaker like that.

I see where the top four remain the same. Riverside, Myrtle Beach, Bluffton, and Blythewood dropped. B-C, JLM, NMB, Daniel, and Wilson all move up. What is Region 3 like this year?

Very well played game on both sides Rivalries are always close. It definatly was a wake-up call for us breaking a 11 game winning streak, keeping us humble going into play-offs.

Goals:
A.Sharpe (2) BHS
R.Gianneli (1) RV
E.Moore (1) RV

sorry if i spelt any of the RV's players names wrong!

Game recaps are always tricky, depending on the perspective of the writer. This is from the Porter Gaud perspective, as it was pulled from their web page.

Quote:

The Porter-Gaud boy’s varsity soccer team came up on the short end of a 2 – 1 over-time game Thursday nigh against #1 ranked Pinewood Prep. The game was the last in the regular season for both teams as they now move onto the SCISA State Playoffs beginning Monday May 5th.

The game was evenly played in the first half as neither team would be able to find the back of the net. Cyclone Senior Keeper Dan Gabriel made 4 saves in the first half as Pinewood out shot Porter-Gaud 10 – 5.

The Porter-Gaud defense was again solid in the back led by Senior’s James Poulnot, Garret Hamontree, and Drew McAvoy.

The second half was much the same for the first 10 minutes as the teams went back and forth. The Cyclones would finally break through in the 51st minute as Freshman Tradd Lovern found the back of the net off a cross from Senior Christopher Appleby. The goal was Lovern’s third of the season and put the Cyclones up 1 – 0.

The goal seemed to wake up Pinewood as they started to dominate the run of play. They out-shot Porter-Gaud 17 – 5 in the second half and 27 – 10 for the game. Cyclone Sophomore Keeper Jacob Kupferman made 13 saves in the second half keeping Pinewood off the board.

Pinewood was finally able to beat Kupferman and the Cyclone defense as they were awarded a questionable penalty kick in the 70th minute. Malcom Reed would step up to take the kick. Kupferman guessed correctly and made the initial save but could not stop Reed on the rebound tying the score at 1 – 1 with 10 minutes to play.

Pinewood would continue to attack but could not beat the Cyclones defense nor keeper and the score would be 1 – 1 at the end of regulation. The two teams would award the supportive crowd with some extra soccer, two 5-minute overtime periods.

Pinewood came out strong again and were awarded with a questionable free-kick from 25 yards out in the first overtime. Pinewoods Malcom Reed would be on the end of the free-kick, heading it past Kupferman for a 2 – 1 Pinewood lead.

The lead would stand up despite the efforts of Senior’s William Bouch, Devon Ball, Ben Muller, and Freshman Weston Stitt to equalize. Porter-Gaud could not find the back of the net to tie the game up and the final would be Pinewood 2, Porter-Gaud 1 after overtime.

With the loss Porter-Gaud finishes the regular season at 16 – 5 overall and 6 – 4 in the Region. A terrific record for a young team that graduated 13 players from last year’s team. A real accomplishment and credit to the boy’s for their hard work and dedication to the season.

Porter-Gaud will now set their sights on the SCISA State Playoffs as they travel to play Cardinal Newman on Monday May 5th in the Quarter-Finals. Game is tentatively set for 7pm.

Interesting to read, Pinewood outshot PG 27-10 throughout the match, yet both of Pinewood's goals were the result of "questionable" calls. One thing I can definitely agree with, the referee team did not have one of the better nights in the low country.

Missing in the re-cap above is the 2nd goal scored by Pinewood in regulation. Goal is scored. Much debate from fans and players about it being off side. AR never flinched. Referee went to AR, probably more to remove the players, but discussed with the AR. Signaled for the kick-off, awarding the goal. Referee went to quiet the coach, talked to him briefly. Went back to the AR. Waved off the goal and game went to OT. Not the best sequence of events for the referee.

Ridge View 3 Blythewood 2 PK's

Very well played game on both sides Rivalries are always close. It definatly was a wake-up call for us breaking a 11 game winning streak, keeping us humble going into play-offs.

Goals:
A.Sharpe (2) BHS
R.Gianneli (1) RV
E.Moore (1) RV

sorry if i spelt any of the RV's players names wrong!

fantastic game on both sides. BHS 1-0 at half with RV scoring 2 quick goals with under 15 mins to go. But BHS got the equalizer late. Pk's were basically 1 sides.
Goals made by Aaron Mayes for BHS and Jordan Stovall, Steven Olsen and Kyle Dela Merced in Pk's. RV keeper blocked 2 pk's including 1 which he was called off the line and made the save again. Again great game by both sides
