Today is the day the "second season" begins. Everybody has butterflies in their stomach.
First round 4A matches that should be great games:
Byrnes @ Fort Mill (#6 vs. #4 this early in the tournament?) Spartanburg @ Clover (Can a Region 3 team advance to the second round?) Irmo @ TL Hanna (A dangerous unranked and 4th seed Irmo)
What are some of the best early matches in 3A and 2A/1A?

Another reason that this seeding plan doesn't work. There should be a meeting to seed all upperstate and lower state teams from 1 - 16. that way you could hopefully avoid that kind of 1st round game.

Since AA/A DOES rank—and does not use the region system. . .probably nothing dramatically tense until Friday. . .although this is why we play the matches.
Top seeds have byes today, in fact.

The point system used to be in place. Points for wins/losses over AAAA/AAA/AA/A teams. More points if they have a winning record. Encourages strength of schedule. Football does it so we should too, right

In 3A I think JL Mann/Woodmont could be interesting if Katie Tate is in the goal for Woodmont. I know JL Mann is heavily favored but Woodmont seems to be a different team the 2nd half of this season than the 1st half. They started out 3-6 and then went 6-1 to end up 9-7, beating Greenville along the way in PKs. I'm interested to see how much of a difference an elite level goalie can make. Not to take away from the rest of Woodmont's team, I'm only familiar with their goalie.
Also Wade Hampton-G @ AC Flora could be interesting depending on whom AC Flora has available to play. I think Wade Hampton-G will prevail.
I think the most interesting 1st round match up in 3A, though, will be Blue Ridge @ Blythewood. I don't know much about Blue Ridge but Blythewood has improved from the beginning of season to end of season each of the last 2 years and has shown to rise very well to big occasions, so I am picking them.

L&L,
Thanks for the insight, look forward to seeing the recaps of those matches.
Junior,
I don't like the point system, I like the system just the way it is. R2 is very strong this year so that's the way it goes. If you get into points you have the problem of a team receiving more points for a win against a 4A dog than they would receive for a victory over a 3A or 2A stud. Plus there's the problem with out-of-state matches.....

I imagine that's why they did away with it. It makes the 1st round that much more interesting this way which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
