Congratulations to Fort Mill's Ashleigh Sheets who was chosen to represent SC in the Clash of the Carolinas, but is unable to play due to her commitment to the United States Military Academy.

Ashleigh is a great player, no doubt!! Why was she nominated for the All-Star games if she could not play? I thought the nominations were only if they could play.

No agenda here. Just could have opened the spot for someone who could play and announced on the roster instead of coming in later.

Hopefully Ashleigh can play for the North in the North-South game!

I have no idea how the nomination or selection process is handled. She must have been nominated because the FM varsity girls coach told me that he did. Ashleigh confirmed to me that she was contacted by someone associated with the event (selection committee?). She told the person that she is scheduled to report to West Point at the end of June and would not be available for the all-star match.

I can only assume she was selected (why else would she be contacted)?

I think Ashleigh would be available for the North/South match.

only players that can commit to the game are selected.... so you are selected because you were nominated but then you are no selected because you cannot commit.

So every player that receives consideration, or is nominated by the committee (coaches), is contacted to determine their availability for the game?

Or are the nominees ranked 1 - 25 and the committee then goes down the list to determine availability?

Maybe you are correct, maybe she was never chosen to represent South Carolina in this all-star game? I assume if she wasn't, it was due to her not being available to play???

Ashleigh may not have known at the time of nominations that she would not be available in July.
