There were no sophomores on the team, but there was one freshman. I've never heard of her and Summerville has had a quiet season going unranked for a couple of weeks. That strikes me odd, but I've never seen her play and the award could be completely justified. Can anyone toot her horn?

Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

Summerville has won 18 of its last 19 games (quietly) and 14 in a row. The unranked weeks were very justified as we started the season off 5-4. Bacon has been the heart of their defense. She has a very low turnover ratio and a high 50/50 win ratio(yes we keep track). The defense gets credited with 14 shutouts and she is the Center-Back on that defense. Strong student, Strong character, very Strong player. "Toot"! And yes, this is a biased opinion.

Congrats to Bacon, Sweat, and the rest of the All-State team.

I was surprised that Byrnes didn't get a player on the 4A team.

Congratulations to all those that made it.

61% of the 4A names were from schools with 2 or more players: Dorman, Wando, Summerville, Dutch Fork, and TL Hanna. 61% also came from the upper state. What were the surprises to me? Not many from a bottom-up perspective -- I think the coaches did as good a job as any year I've seen -- but since this message board was created for second-guessing!
  • I think you could argue that Wando deserved three players and that either Jade Davis or Olivia Urig could have been on the list. Wando's the deepest team in the state.
  • Dorman having 3 wasn't a surprise and was deserved; second deepest team in the state.
  • I think 2 from Summerville (not the names, but just the quantity) was a surprise given the team's record against ranked opponents.
  • Kendall Maxwell not making it was a surprise to me; not from a numbers perspective in terms of TL Hanna or a criticism of the wonderful keepers who made it but from a sheer skills perspective.
  • I thought given the disparity between the upper state and lower state that 61% might have been a low representation from the upper state.

In 3-A, 66% of the names came from schools with 2 or more players; only surprise was that Riverside did not have had 3 names; deepest 3-A school in the state.

Deirdre Ball - defensive midfielder/center midfielder, only a junior, may be the most underrated player in the State.
For a team that went 21-3 and lost 8 seniors and 1 transfer to DF, along with SA and NA in the top 15 and a very good Irmo team, I believe Lexington overachieved. Besides region two, maybe the most competitive region in the State allowing only 3 goals in 10 matches (one on a pk).
And this is coming from my opinion that the Lexingtons coaching staff is way overrated.
Rumor has it that Fryland may return in some role next year to assist the varsity and JV team...Please say thats not so.
Does anybody have any insights into this?
