Nice "Mike Bassett" reference.

NHS 2
Irmo 1

Great match! I think Irmo dominated most of the match but NHS played extremely well in the back. Both teams scored on a corner and NHS second goal with about 18 left was a great goal as well. Congrats both teams.

I agree, Irmo outplayed Northwestern for most of the game but Northwestern's defense is what held them in there. I heard from several Northwestern players that they thought Irmo was a better team than Spring Valley.

Spring Valley won out over Wando 2-0. Wando came out strong and dominated Spring Valley in the first 30 minutes in the midfield by overloading one side. However, once Spring Valley adjusted, Wando was rendered ineffective. Spring Valley completely stopped Wando cold the second half, and dominated all around.

NW was kept on their heals 80% of the time tonight. The first NW goal came from a deflection off of an Irmo player during a corner kick in the first half. Irmo countered by serving a beautiful ball into the box, which was headed into the goal by a NW defender as he and an Irmo striker went for the ball.

The sideline ref. called a push in the back by the Irmo striker and called the Irmo goal back. The video clearly shows both players going for the ball with the defender planting an arm into the striker who hit the ground as the NW defender heads the ball into the goal. The reaction of the NW defender doesn't indicate he was fouled. A very controversial call that ended up being a game breaker for Irmo.

Irmo ended the half down by one. The second half opened with 25 minutes of absolute dominance by Irmo, which is when Irmo scored on a beautiful header from a corner kick.

Irmo lost some momentum as NW stepped up their level of play for the next 10 minutes or so when they took a shot from the right side which was knocked down by the Irmo keeper. The ball was batted around in the box a couple of times before a NW player punched it in for their second goal on the night.

Down by one, Irmo drew on that desire we've come to know so well and again pounded the devil out of the NW midfield and defenders but failed to net their opportunities.

Irmo was the superior team tonight, but were unable to have the luck break their way.

Great season boys and best of luck to NW next weekend. They'll defeat SV by two.
