Percentage of students who are either Medicaid-eligible or qualify for the free- or reduced-price lunch program.

Example: Spring Valley High School

WOW! I didn't know Academic Magnet was so well off financially. That's interesting.

I see BE is NOT RATED. I guess due to them being a private school. Well you can bet that they'd probably be #1 if they were rated. Same for Christ Church and SSC too.

Hammer - AMHS is a school of 600 kids that are high achievers from all over Charleston County. These type of students are most likely to come from families with parents that are achievers; thus, they would not qualify for government assistance (reduced lunches, Medicaid, etc) that the Poverty Index is determined on. A vast majority of the kids come from average, middle class families, while some from either wealthy or lower income. I would not term it a financially well off school, like a Porter Gaud.

In the girls thread on this topic there was a reference to club soccer and poverty index going hand in hand. At AMHS, less than half the girls team plays club soccer and a little over half the guys team.

Not to blow to much smoke up coach Heise’ skirt, but to have a consistently solid team with a poverty score of 59.81 is quite remarkable. He must be doing something right!

And not to change the subject too much but for Brookland-Cayce to have as much athletic success (Brookland-Cayce's athletic programs ranked #3 in the Midlands and #20 statewide in a poll conducted by The State newspaper, and Coach Coleman named Athletic Director of the year for Region 4), and have the school board ask for the AD resignation, well it’s beyond me!!!!
Someone must be on drugs.
