This is a cut and paste from an email conversation with Wilson HS principal Gerard Edwards. The Class 3A Florence school is searching for a boys head soccer coach.

(1) Does the coach HAVE to be a school employee -- i.e. teacher? If so, what areas of certification are open, if any?

We would want the coach to be a school employee. But, if they can get a teaching job in our district (for example, elementary) we could work with the individual.

At Wilson High School, we have the following openings:

Math
English
Social Studies
Special Education
Science

There is also a Jobs for American Grad position (career specialist) position opening. The primary objectives of a JAG Model program are: Target the 'right' young people for services. Keep program participants in school through graduation or completion of a GED. Extend program services to participants for 12 months after graduation or completion of a GED. Assist graduates or completers in pursuit of a postsecondary education and/or an entry-level job that leads to a career. Deliver services to non-graduates and non-completers during the 12-month follow-up period to attain a GED certificate or a high school diploma. For more information. http://www.jag.org/index.htm

Any interested candidates can apply at www.fsd1.org.

(2) What age coach is most desirable? I ask this, because most of the younger coaches that I know -- that would be willing to move to the Florence area -- some administrators desire 'older' coaches rather than in the 24-28 range.

I think it is important for the next coach to be motivated (age is not a consideration). I would like some experience coaching, but we need someone to be able to take the program to the next level.

(3) Would you want me to advertise this opening on our SCSoccer.com Message Board?

Yes. I would appreciate this.

The coach will have responsibility for:

*teaching sports techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics;
*developing a coaching philosophy
*conditioning athletes appropriately for activities *requiring endurance, strength and agility;

*Team management (Pre-season training, team building, game day preparation issues, out of season play, team rules, choosing team captains, parental issues etc.)
*teaching sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's team;
*monitoring athletes' school attendance, grades and personal conduct;
*responding to player injuries with approved first aid techniques;
*managing uniforms, equipment and school facilities in a responsible manner;

Applicants should list related playing or coaching experiences and any training completed including the American Sport Education Program, university course work and first aid or CPR. In addition, candidates should list the sports they feel most comfortable teaching/coaching. (List sports in order of capability.)

Thank you for your time. I appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to answer my request.
