My understanding is that there is a new rule in the Premier League where a state gets 3 slots if a team from that state finished first or second in the previous Premier League season. They went in as the 3rd place team from SC.

Did the state rule change where a team playing in the premier league, who are not the state champion or the state finalist, must also play the SCYSA regular season Challenge league schedule in order to qualify for the state championships?

Yes. It was posted on the SCYSA web page under actions taken from the board meeting. If a 3rd place team qualifies for RIII PL play, they do not have to play in the state challenge league for the state cup. I would anticipate a revision to the admin manual to reflect that but don't know. 18 Boys also have 3 SC teams.

well....miracles never cease to exist.

I am glad they have made this accomodation, If you are selected to the premier league as a third entry from the state you should not have to play the Challenge league...

Progress.....

Just wanted to clarify that the 3rd place team gets an automatic bid to the Premier League if a team from the state finished 1st or 2nd in the R3PL the previous season.

but the statement in the SCYSA website does not say this...it says if a third team is invited... as the R3PL is usually made up of 12 teams8 of which are state champions and finalist the remaining 4 are invited...

Actually, I think the final word will have to come from either an updated admin manual or updated challenge cup rules or both. Because, either statement could be true. I copied this from the SCYSA web page.

10. The Board approved a provision to allow three South Carolina teams that qualified for Premier League in each age and gender division to participate in the Premier League and not be required to participate in the SC State Challenge League.

The word qualified, leads me to believe something was done as Coach P points out.

In any case it should only prove to help SC girls soccer at this age group.
