Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't more than half of those kids in these articles play and get kicked off the CUFC '91 Team for use of illegal drugs. And didn't 4-5 players leave the team? Or is it just a rumor? If it's not a rumor then this is ridiculous that there getting talked about as being a prospect for a major University..

Yeah - we certainly wouldn't want a kid with a background like that getting a scholarship in any sport now would we?
Give me a break - find me a college that doesn't have kids with "questionable backgrounds" in some sport - we may not like it but it's reality. What makes you think soccer is above this?

Well how come everyone I talk to says at the Regional's the CUFC '91 Team had several kids get caught with the use of illegal drugs. The only one player i heard that defiantly did leave the team was Joey Demare and a kid named Ben Limbaugh, i think that's the goalie? Also, John Roberts? If i teammate has to leave the team for kids doing illegal stuff, that pretty much say's the kids who are doing illegal substances are not ready for college because my friend it is much harder when you get to college don't we all know!

Soccer certainly is much above this soccer63...Look at Parker from SV.. He could have gone to USC but ended up not, same with several other players. (With bad backgrounds)

Just putting my 2-sense in this. Happy Daddy I'm a parent of a younger boy that plays at CUFC. The word does get around...

Don't know anything about this situation..But I have seen soccer prfessionals and parents make up excuses or look the other way because of the player's ability..Who ends up paying the price? The player...They will hit a roadblock somewhere and their days of play are over..That roadblock has several names..Character..Self esteem and integrity

I don't give a rip roarin' flip who you are. Your "information" is wrong and you should have the decency to refrain from posting crap about kids when you don't know what you're talking about. What distinguishes "everyone [you] talk to" from you is that they had the "decency" to confine themselves to one-on-one rumormongering rather than posting their error riddled nonsense in a public forum.

wkgod7,

From your history of 23 posts I see you are new to the forum. Please refrain from attacking and/or calling kids out personally on this message board for negative reasons. Praise is welcome, tearing someone down is not.

If you aren't willing to put your name to accusations made . . . you have no business making them here, in my opinion. Most participants strive to post constructive comments that'll elevate the community discussion as a whole.

The South Carolina Elite camp was a great experience for a large number of SC players (boys and girls) and particularly for the 10 or so who captured the eye of a top 10 program like South Carolina.

Speaking of the girls, the ball served in and goal scored Saturday night by U17 National Team player, Kayla Grimsley had to have been one of the most composed combinations resulting in a finish I've ever seen. Great talent coming into SC women's soccer too!

This speaks volumes about the progress SC Youth Soccer is making. Best of luck to every player who earned a look by USC.

Manchester,

Was the Elite camp a invitation only event or was it open to anyone willing to pay or what?

I personally heard a rumor and was wondering if it were true. It's a forum? I was trying to ask a question not trying to be negative because some of the kids do have good ability and are a member of the CUFC family. So i was seeing if the rumor's were true.

Soccer 63,

All summer camps are fee based, but your top level players are invited to attend based on the scouting done by the head coach and assistant coaches as they attend top tournaments and regional league and odp competition during the prior year.

On the boys side this particular Elite Camp had 6 or so National team players and a bunch of region team players. The camp has been sold out for eight years now.

wkgod7,

If you hear a rumor about your neighbor or as you say your family, is it better to post a sign at the entrance of your community with your inquiry or do you ask the concerned party if he or she could use a hand?

Please think carefully before posting here.

I'm afraid I don't know about that, but there was some outstanding talent on the pitch during the top camp player vs incoming freshman match.

Manchester,

Oh I'm very familiar with fee based summer camps having sent a kid to odp region camp for several years now and a host of college camps. I wasn't exactly sure about this Elite camp - I kind of wondered based on what I was reading if it was beyond your normal college camp. (Guess it is but you still pay)

Soccer63,

NCAA rules don't allow anything other than fee based participation for college camps.

Oh - good ole SCHSL in disguise better known as NCAA. I should have known they wouldn't allow anything but fee based camps.

Soccer63,

I may be wrong about that. As of 9/1 of a player's junior year they are allowed 5 visits until they graduate, which can be paid in full by the school. The players who fall into that age range probably didn't have to pay.

Manchester,

I think what you are talking about would constitute an official visit. A prospective athlete is limited to 1 official visit per institution, up to a maximum of 5. Official visits cannot occur until the first day of the prospective athletes classes their senior year, among other things.

I believe Eric Martinez is from Fort Mill.

Yes, we have lived in Fort Mill for 13 years after moving here from the D.C. area - not sure where they got Rock Hill for the article. We are not related to Alex and Enzo and their family.
