It is with great sadness that I tell you Robbie Owens has passed due to injuries sustained in a car accident July 29, 2008. Robbie was the goalkeeper for the Bridge FA 90 Gold Team, US Club National Champions. Robbie also participated on the 1990 SCYSA ODP team under Coach Kevin Varnado. Robbie will be greatly missed by all of his team mates and the soccer families of Bridge FA. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.

We were shocked to hear of this loss. My son played with Robbie on ODP and in competition. Our prayers go out to his family.

A Robbie Owens Memorial Fund has been established that the family will use to honor their son, in some way that they will determine in the future. Donations may be made at any branch of The Bank of South Carolina or mailed to:
Robbie Owens Memorial Fund

The Bank of South Carolina

P.O. Box 538

Charleston, SC 29402

I wanted all to know this has been set up. This has been such a tradegy for Robbie's family and all of his soccer family. For those not in the Charleston area there was a memorial soccer game last night at Summerville Soccer Club where more than 50 young boys and girls showed up to play soccer in Robbie's honor.

Immediately after the visitation on Thursday evening, there is an opportunity for all of the youth affected by this tragedy to gather for a time of Christian fellowship. It is a time designed for Robbie's peers to begin processing their many emotions in a faith based atmosphere. It is being hosted by Old St. Andrews church on Highway 61, and will be held in their Youth Group room. It is open to all youth, regardless of denomination or faith history. Thank you again for your support of the Owens during this difficult time. Peace--

During the game on Sunday, the Charleston Battery will be doing something to honor Robbie also.

I will miss you Robbie................
"Mamma C"

Sunday, August 3rd @ 5:00 pm before the Charleston Battery game anyone who has played with Robbie either at West Ashley High School or the Bridge is asked to walk on the field as the Battery will have a moment of silence before their home game against Vancouver. Tickets will be made available if needed by the Battery. West Ashley players are asked to wear either a nice polo / shirt or their WAHS Soccer T-shirt and Bridge players are asked to wear a nice polo / shirt / Bridge T-shirt or their jersey in memory of Robbie.
