The Beautiful Game vs. The Gold Medal Result

Two different styles.....and a fun match to watch.

Well stated Hurst!

So, how do we develop teams that produce both?

(And at the same time could you cure cancer too!)

great win for the usa. solo and her d-backs played great with little help from our midfield. 75%+ of the match was played in our 1/2.

i wonder if brazil models it's opd program after ours?

If you read into how the Brasil women's program is contructed it is an odd story and difficult to duplicate. It is created by almost ignoring it.

Sweden is more to be thanked for Brasil soccer in this case. Marta, Elaine, Christane and Daniela all play professionally there.

China had a similar situation back in 1999-2006. I may be off on the exact numbers but the ratio is close to the size of the country. China at the time had 8 "high school" programs and 4 "clubs" and 2 "college" teams.

Imagine if you could a Brasil that had a pro league or at least gave residency to promising players? The US would have even more serious challenges ahead of itself.

The new WPS may provide help in that regard to the US as well as other countries. Of course after the WWC 07 was finished the rumors began. Maybe Marta and the gang would rather play in the sun?
