Yes, two good wins for the Southern Conference.

The SoCon is a very, very good conference through the upper half. UNCG, Furman, Davidson, Western Carolina, College of Charleston and Samford.

UNCG, Furman and Samford all made the NCAA Tournament last year. Three teams from a mid-major conference is unheard of!

Yes the Southern Conference has some fine teams. Furman proved they can play at the Carolina cup but as for the Western Carolina game, its a little tough for a soccer team when the opposing team decides to change the game from soccer to Roller Derby. It was probably one of the dirtiest games I've seen at the college level. You could see the frustration in the eyes of the gamecocks, however they hung together and continued to put pressure on the Catamounts. Unfortunately, the soccer gods were not on our side that day. The physical aspect of this game was so bad, we are lucky we came away with only one injury. Some uniforms were ripped, torn and shredded, bruises up and down legs, scratches on arms, etc. So sorry Daniela had to be the one to be sacrificed! Yes, there were referees at this game, why they didn't take better control, I have no idea, but they did call 20 fouls on the Catamounts. I suppose you just get tired of blowing the whistle. Stoping the flow of the game every 2 minutes for a foul does not make for a good game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm the first one to congratulate the underdog for a fine victory, but in this case, I can't seem to muster a compliment to the opposing team.

We can now put that game behind us and move on to SEC play, where the competition can actually play soccer and the games will all be fair and good! Good luck Gamecocks, we look forward to seeing you qualify for post season once again.

Agreed. I heard Western Carolina played with a negative approach, and does so most of the time. While WCU has had some success with that style of play, the other top teams in the SoCon seem to play some very good soccer.
