Wofford Halts Furman Winning Streak, 1-0

Spartanburg, S.C. -- Wilson Hood scored on an assist from Nick Schuermann in the third minute as Wofford shocked Furman 1-0 in Southern Conference men’s soccer action Saturday evening at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

The loss snapped Furman’s eight game winning streak and nine-match unbeaten string. The Paladins fell to 9-5-1 overall and 4-1-0 in SoCon play while Wofford improved to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in the league.

At the 2:57 mark, Schuermann picked out a streaking Hood who laced a one-timer past Paladin keeper Alec Kann from 18 yards for his fifth goal of the season.

Furman had the better of the attacking chances most of the evening outshooting the Terriers 20-10, including 8-6 on shots on goal, but Wofford’s Thomas Hunter recorded eight saves to earn the shutout. Kann registered five saves in the loss for Furman.

Furman will try to rebound when it hosts Upstate rival Clemson at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stone Soccer Stadium.
