Winthrop 1

Winthrop scores first on an uncontested header off of a corner kick. VMI answers back in similar fashion, resulting from a free kick later in the half. (I'm amazed at the lack of defensive concentration on restarts in Division 1 women's soccer). VMI gets a scrappy goal off of a cross from the corner and makes it stand up.

Gutty performance from VMI, I thought Winthrop had better talent and was obviously much deeper. VMI played with a lot of heart.

I thought the best player on the field was VMI freshman Olivia Moore. She didn't figure in the scoring but she was a lot of fun to watch. Very fast, very creative, very dangerous. Winthrop defenders had their hands full with this first-team All Big South newcomer.

CCU HPU match should be a good one.
CCU wil be looking for revenge from last year's final.
