Winthrop 1

Winthrop scores first on an uncontested header off of a corner kick. VMI answers back in similar fashion, resulting from a free kick later in the half. (I'm amazed at the lack of defensive concentration on restarts in Division 1 women's soccer). VMI gets a scrappy goal off of a cross from the corner and makes it stand up.

Gutty performance from VMI, I thought Winthrop had better talent and was obviously much deeper. VMI played with a lot of heart.

I thought the best player on the field was VMI freshman Olivia Moore. She didn't figure in the scoring but she was a lot of fun to watch. Very fast, very creative, very dangerous. Winthrop defenders had their hands full with this first-team All Big South newcomer.

CCU HPU match should be a good one.
CCU wil be looking for revenge from last year's final.

Jaques, you are right. Is Blair hurt? Doesn't seem to be getting the minutes for such a strong player and dangerous finisher. HPU D will have their hands full marking both Blair and Gunning!

Chants will 1-0 and will play Radford in the finals on Sunday.

CCU heads to big south championship for second straight year. Blair Monroe, North Myrtle Beach High grad, got the lone goal in the 15th minute. In regards to the remark about Blair, I talked to Blair throughout the season and she has not said about any injuries. She did get hurt in the uncg game and got rocked in the liberty game. They have a huge team and have alot of quality players..so that could be it too. She got the goal, and they are moving on. GOOD LUCK CCU-bring on the ncaas!!! even though the most likely opponent will be UNC-Chapel Hill...

CCU women's team lose 2-1 in the big south championship; ashleigh gunning scored the lone goal for ccu...the write up said radford got a pk in the 7th minute for a handball and then later coastal was down 2-0; ashleigh scored in the 74th minute...unfortunate for ccu as they had a great season, and they lose a great group of seniors...3 from south carolina, jill karelitz, blair monroe, and chelsea terry
