SCYS Minutes - Approved 10/19/08

Steve C. made a motion to allow a maximum of three teams per age group and gender to participate in the Premier League without having to participate in the SCSCL. State Cup and League Rules will be amended to accommodate the change. Barry seconded the motion.

THE MOTION PASSED

That means that in an age group that has 3 teams playing in the RIII PL, the 3rd team doesn't have to play in SCSCL. The 3 RIII PL teams will be seeded 1-3 based on finish in the RIII PL. Example, this years U18 Boys.

In years past, the 3rd team had to play in the SCSCL to qualify for a spot and seeding for the state cup.

Good motion. Past years had too much wear and tear on the teams that plays both... not to mention the additional travel expenses to play both.

My boy's team had to play both last year (U-16). It was grueling. The upside was that we played twice as many games as we otherwise would have. The downside was that we played twice as many games as we otherwise would have! We stayed sharp, but we had lots more physical problems. Seems like everyone on the team was injured at one time or another. This year - I don't recall any player missing a game due to injury.

Good call. Kudos to SCYSA. If you are in R3PL, you shouldn't be required to play in the state league as well.

Down side is that the top division in the state league gets further watered-down.

I believe there were only two divisions in R3PL that had three SC teams this season: U15 girls & U18 boys.
