I looked at it, but didn't scrutinize it.

Which region in the lower-state will not get a 4th place team into the play-offs? If Region 5 gets five, then somebody is only getting three, correct?

Here is a note from the bottom of the brackets page:

Regions VII or Region VIII 4th place will advance to the play-offs and be placed appropriately (to be determined by those two regions). Region V 5th place will advance to the play-offs and be placed appropriately.

So Regions 7 and 8 will somehow decide which of their 4th place teams advance.

One interesting thing is that the 1st and 5th seeds from Region 5 could meet in the first round of the playoffs. In girls tennis where the brackets are similiar to soccer, Lexington and N. Augusta met in the first round.

Peabody,
The records were region only, I think we all know teams of this caliber will play more than 16 games. I have seen DF's Region III Players and I have seen Ron when he is excited. The two cancel each other out.

Hurst,
Coach Fryland informed me last year that this region would get 5 spots. I called his bluff, but he supported it. Check an older post under the girls thread and you should find it. One of the lower state regions only has 5 teams and only 3 will make it, was his response.

Region 7 OR Region 8 fourth place team will NOT advance.

That'll go over like a lead balloon. I do think it's a correct decision in this case. No way the 4th place team in either of these regions should be better than the 5th place team from Region 5.

Only 14 Region games. Home/Away against 7 opponents.

Region 3 4A had eight teams in their region last year.

Why didn't York, Lancaster, Rock Hill or South Pointe get a shot at a 5th seed state play-off opportunity?

Hurst,

None of those teams had the opportunity to make the playoffs as a 5th seed because all other 4A Regions in the Upper State had at least 6 Girls Soccer Teams.

Region 5 will get a 5th spot bc two of the regions in the Lower State (7 and 8) only have 5 schools that field girls soccer teams.

Actually, we only have 5 schools in Regions 7 and 8, period. Not entirely sure of the rationale, but it definitely complicates things. Seems a little "off" that one region of 5 will send 4 teams, but the other region of 5 can only send 3...then again, it's equally unfair to have a region of 8 that only sends 4 teams and leaves 4 out. The folks who do region alignments have definitely done an outstanding job at the prime directive of management: take something simple and complicate it.
