Attention SC HS Soccer Fans: This is your chance to weigh in on the preseason polls for 2009. Please post your Top 10 boys teams in each SCHSL classification and SCISA regions.
Make sure to support your poll with facts based on returning starters, club players, etc. The official SCSoccer.com preseason polls will be released January 30 at the SCHSSCA Winter Clinic in Columbia.
1. Wando - got to knock out the champ 2. Mauldin - most talented team in the state 3. Dorman - Josef will find someone to replace the Big Z in the back 4. Clover - solid, deep and now battle-tested 5. Dutch Fork - R3PL players all over the field 6. Byrnes - good to see so much talent coming out of that Spartanburg-based club 7. Irmo - roster deep with high-level club players 8. Spring Valley - need to replace the GK/FWD, but a nice talent pool available 9. Aiken - go get 'em Junior!, solid varsity returning & great JV moving up 10. Fort Mill - Goodbye to Sheets & five other senior starters, so long Coach Finnerty, brutal schedule (What, me worry?)
Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.
1. Wando 1. Mauldin - I think the most talented team in the state 3. Dutch Fork 4. T.L. Hanna 5. Clover 6. Fort Mill 7. Spring Valley 8. Irmo 9. Spartanburg 10. Dorman*
*Losing 3 all-state players and the only backup goalkeeper will leave some holes at Dorman. You don't replace Zongrone and a keeper like Robinson. Maybe a new system to fit the personnel we will have available could provide us with some success.
Most improved team in the state - Boiling Springs!
Forgive me for asking this, but I am new to high school ball this year (we have only played Club ball up to this point), but what are the guidelines for the teams getting together to condition prior to the start of the 1st official practice date?
OUT-OF-SEASON Strength and conditioning programs will not be affected by the limitation on practice seasons. Conditioning programs are not to include agility drills that enhance specific skills for a given sport, nor may equipment for any sport be used. Agility drills appropriate for all sports will be acceptable. Practice and weight training must be open to all students. These sessions cannot be mandatory for any student. Any student participating in an illegal practice will be declared ineligible for that sport season. Any school allowing an illegal practice will be subject to League discipline to include the placing of the sport on probation.
Open-Season/Open Facility (2008-2009 School Year) a. June 1 - July 25, 2009 for Fall sports. (July 26-30, 2009 is Closed Season) b. June 1 - July 31, 2009 for Winter and Spring sports. ** See note on Page B-6
