Wando will again win the lower state with 3 senior's, a bunch of juniors who play for the coach's club team (knocked out in the first round of state 2 years straight)
A very good sophomore class, who many play for the Bridge team that has won state 2 years in a row and 1 good freshman
who playes for Cesa.
They will not win state without a great contribution from sophomore's.

I dunno much about this year's team. I'll pass judgment after I play them in the alumni game, woot.

Nice pitch for the sophomores as tryouts come to a close today.

You missed some positive accolades for the juniors....Two very good juniors from CESA premier and the coach's club team was tournament champions in South Charlotte and Orange Classic.

Wando will need great contributions from freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors to be State Champs again this year.

Ruh roh, we have some lobbying going on here and it's getting ugly! Whether it's juniors/freshmen/sopohmores/seniors, that team is the one to beat this year.

Don't have a dog in this fight. I just know the club teams
and the 91 team have been under performers in state.
I do remember that Lisson girls play for Cesa, and Urig also.
What a shame.

So the coach needs to play the sophomores a "great" amount in order to win state? Why is that if they have "a bunch of juniors"? Looking at the track record, I'm pretty sure Champ knows how to win the big one.

No the young guns will have to step up in order for Wando to
win state. I am just going off what the different age groups have done in club soccer the past 2 years. Did I say anything about playing time ?

Does anyone know how many returning All-State,RIIIPL, or ODP players Wando has this year?

Oh, my mistake. You must have ben referring to carrying water bottles, washing practice pennies, and collecting the balls after practice. Surely you can see where I made my mistake

Anyone know anything about the out-of-state teams Wando has on schedule this year?

Parkview(GA), Greenbrier(GA), AC Reynolds(NC) and TC Roberson(NC)?

They're also playing BE, but that doesn't count cos they're local and I also went there and thus need no info, lol.

Parkview is preseason #5 in 5A.
Greenbrier is unranked, but finished 15-4 last year in 4A.

TC Roberson is loaded- will challenge for the 3A states in NC. Juniors have already committed to Kentucky, Georgia, Clemson...

According to the Wando website, they beat AM 9 to 0.

Interesting look at the '09 roster: 2 seniors, 11 juniors, 3 sophs, 3 freshmen. There is no leadership from senior class. The junior class, while large, for the most part is more concerned with off field activities. Only 3 sophomores - I don't see their play being the most integral part to Wando being successful. Champ always selects some freshmen for the varsity roster. Based on those selections, I don't see any of them making a sigificant impact on the team. The focus is on the junior class. Are they committed?

That's about par for the course at Wando. Even back when I played, when it was game time, you left it all on the field. Otherwise, parties, hanging out with friends, talking about parties and friends, etc. is the norm.

Wando must be the most questioned back to back champions of any team, any sport, any decade. Good luck to those girls - don't know what else you could do to get the critics off your back!

Is the Wando questioning internal or external?

I'm trying to figure out if OutsidetheBox is actually inside the box?

Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

I had the same thought! Previously there was the "sophomores must step up!" and then came the senior talk. Seeing how most of the posters are parents, coaches, or players...I'm thinking there is more to this than random fans calling out kids.

Great minds, Hurst...great minds.

I thought that Kate Moquinn who is a senior would provide good leadership. Wow that's a like of Juniors must be Champs
whole club team.

The junior class has had a winning history. 2005 and 2006 state champions which a lot of the girls played on. Two skillful CESA players who won state this year. The players played on bridge and won orange classic and South Charlotte . Most juinors are returning varsity. It seems to me like these girls are getting it done on the field, regardless of commitment.
Which juniors are uncommited?

Who are the Juniors to look out for?

It is the 2009 roster, but you need special decoder glasses to read it. http://wandoathletics.org/index.cfm?action=main.teamroster&id=14496

I saw a roster up on Wednesday and there was no previous one up. I assumed it was the new one, but cannot verify.

I think Wando could very well go undefeated this year! I think Mauldin will be their opponent in the state finals.
