Paul has done a really nice job with his girls and he has talent all over the field. Spartanburg scored on a corner and a scrum in front of our goal. We scored on a LONG direct kick from Molly Harpe. Otherwise there was plenty of good play but I think that Spartanburg had the better of it.

We get to go to "Paul's Place" next week.

Thanks for taking so much out of them!

And seriously, Region 2 is going to be INSANE this year. A very good team is not going to make the playoffs out of that region.

Just heard from Dale and it appears SA has squeaked one out with NA on a penalty kick late in the game 2-1. It sounds like a pretty physical game and a couple of cards. Good stuff for girls soccer if you ask me.

You know what, I'm glad the refs pulled out a few cards if it was in an effort to restore order. That's good officiating if they were able to keep the match under control.

Now,now...you are taking me out of context. The last sentence was meant as a summary of the WHOLE paragraph, not just the prior sentence. Post-season atmosphere in an early season non-region match is a great experience for both teams.

I was kind of suprised by the Airport score but after having scrimmaged White Knoll this year...they were much improved over last year and moved the ball very well in the second half against us....therefore I can see how they pulled this one off.

Congrats Dale on that huge victory against NA!

Coach P,

Uh-oh, the dreaded "double assist"!

How many other schools are using this statistic as well?

Kyle/Kevin.......can we have a ruling?

@ Ben Lippen-1

Excellent and even 1st half. Tied it up 1-1 to start the 2nd half, but Chapin came back and scored at will. Missing 3 starters and everyone gave good minutes and played hard. Chapin has an excellent squad and moved the ball better than anyone we've seen all year.

In the absence of a soccer statistics guide from the SCHSL or NFHS (if there is one, we are not aware of it), we use the NCAA Soccer Statisticians’ Manual. The following is from the section on assists:

"If a scoring play consists of two consecutive passes without a defender gaining control of the ball, two assists may be awarded, provided the second player does not have to elude a defender to make the final pass. Both passes must have a direct influence on the outcome of a goal scored. If the second player needs to elude a defender before passing to the goalscorer, credit only that assist."

For the final goal in last night's match, our right midfielder passed the ball to our forward who one-touched a pass to the central midfielder who finished nicely with one touch.

Coach P,

Very good.....thanks. I hope we get all high school statisticians on the same page so that there is consistency in the way we score games.

Example: Goalkeeper hits a goal kick to near midfield where it is headed on by the attacking midfielder. Forward beats the defender and opposing goalkeeper to the ball and touches it home. Second assist awarded to the goalkeeper who took the goal kick.

Coach P,

You are abiding by the official manual of the NCAA.....the same people who authorized/sanctioned/invented the BCS.

It has to be right!

Very intense match. I thought both teams played at a high level. I was impressed that both teams were able to sustain that pace of play considering they both played a match the night before. Well done both teams and good luck to Dale and the girls.

I have it good authority that several 2008 soccer alumnae will be attending tonight's Dreher / Blythewood matchup in support of the blue. None of them will be suiting up, regardless of what coach K. says! ;-)

Put this in the category "Hard to believe, but true".

DF is ahead 4-0 at RNE. The RNE coach quits at halftime. She refuses to put her team on the field for the 2nd half. Why?? "We have had some injuries, we only dressed out 15 kids, we have some kids who have never played before, blah blah blah". Didn't the DF girls who don't normally get much playing time deserve a chance to play? What example is the RNE coach showing to all of the kids?? That it's OK to just quit?? This is an absolute travesty.

Question to those who know more than I on the rules... can or should the RNE coach be disciplined by the SCHSL for quitting during a game? What a dissappointment the RNE coach is to the game of soccer.

Agree ScotW, poor example for the kids. Would she have went to Coach Painter at halftime if they were only down 1-0 or even 0-0. No probably not. What about the games she won in the tourney she just played in 8-0 and 6-0. do you think she would have extended the same courtesy as DF Coach did tonight if Indian Lands coach would have approached HER with the same story, doubt it. Tell us all these things before we drive over there, granted not far, get off work early, rearrange our schedules, etc.

Hurst - we got $2.50 back. We lost far more than that. I am not talking about time or gas money. I am talking about the playing time and the experience that many of our girls would have gotten had the game been completed - the girls who haven't gotten much if any playing time thus far. These girls deserved to play, and they were shortchanged. How do you think they feel? Have you ever seen a coach quit simply because they were losing 4-0 at half? Like Vickers, should the RNE coach have asked the other teams she played and beat soundly to quit at half because they were getting beat? No, this is an abomination. My girls all deserve an apology from the RNE coach.

You need to be mad at Nation Ford, channel your "anger" at them. They are the ones that took the fight out of Richland Northeast. RNE was buzzing right along until the Lady Falcons did a number on them in the Wateree final.

Hate on NF!!!!

Blue Ridge Women's Varsity 2, Landrum 1 (PK's 4-2)

Goal: Caitlin Fountain. PK's Caitlin Fountain, Nancy Parra, Nixi Garcia, Kelsea Shirley.

Landrum was outstanding, hustled, and played great team soccer.

Coach P,

You're a very knowledgable person. Tell me, what do you think of a coach that quits a game because they are outmatched and losing 4-0 at halftime? Or simply quits a game for that matter??

I teach my players how important it is to never, ever, ever give up! It would be a pretty poor example if I gave up and pulled my team from the pitch because they were down by 4 goals. It also doesn't show much confidence in them. I've had teams play their best games and even win when playing with only 10 or 11 players and some of those playing through minor injuries. It's a pretty simple conviction that my father taught me: NEVER give up!

About 8 years ago I had a club team that was outmatched in a game versus the #1 team from North Carolina. We were down 4-0 at half time. We did not even consider giving up. We outplayed them in the second half and lost 4-1. I could not have been prouder.

Thanks for your thoughts, Coach P. That's how I feel too. I think that the RNE coach did her team a huge disservice tonight.

I think the coach had positive thoughts by doing this she just didnt think about the playing time for the Dutch Fork girls. Yes it is not right to quit a game you never quit no matter what but there are high school girls i think what the RNE coach was trying to do was to keep them from getting beat so bad that they lose all of thier confidence. But there are teams like Eau Claire, and lower richland that may lose most games by many goals but never give up and always show heart and finish the games no matter what, this is thier time to shine and this just makes you respect some of the lower teams not giving up.

I dont really see what the point in argueing about all this is about, let her deal with her decision and leave the subject alone. The Dutch Fork girls im sure werent that upset, playing better teams seem more fun to me!

When you get RNE at home, you better keep an eye on them. They may sneak out under cover of darkness beneath that one light pole.

Much better energy from the jackets tonight highlighted by the return of Morgan Cutts to the lineup from her seemingly endless bought with mono. She scored two goals and I was very happy for her.

Question to those who know more than I on the rules... can or should the RNE coach be disciplined by the SCHSL for quitting during a game? What a dissappointment the RNE coach is to the game of soccer.

I'll tag in for this one. From the SCHSL Constitution--refer particularly to the NOTE at the end of the section:

Section 8. Contracts for Contests
A. Failure to fulfill a contract properly signed by the superintendent, principal or athletic director
may subject the school to disciplinary action. A contract shall be the agreement of the
parties concerned, reduced to writing and signed by each school.
1. Schools will not make contracts for more than two years. Any contract made for
more than two years will not be valid.
2. Official contract forms may be obtained from the League Office or from the web
page.
B. So that opponents will know the grade level of the various teams sponsored by a member
school, the member school will issue contracts and designate the top grade level permitted
on the non-varsity teams for football, wrestling, and soccer. (Example: Junior Varsity--tenth
grade and under.)
C. The Commissioner will not enforce oral contracts or oral agreements to changes in written
contracts.

NOTE: The Executive Committee considers it a breach of contract and unsportsmanlike conduct when a
school official removes a team from the playing area before a game is completed.

They could have been unassisted in any number of ways. Examples of unassisted goals are a PK, a direct free kick, or a goal directly from a corner kick. A player who wins the ball at midfield, beats one or more defenders, and takes the ball to goal, would also be awarded an unassisted goal.

RE: Joe Eberline,

He is still around- Passed him the other day actually on the way in to work and dropped him a quick email. He said he was doing good, but busy with his teaching position- he is at RNE serving in a "lead teacher" type role which keeps him busy. I believe he is still coaching a bit, helping with his kids teams.

I agree too-- always did, and still do think highly of Joe.
