We'll try to keep everything in this thread, so here go the matches of interest for Week #4.

Monday - 3/30

BHP vs #6 Woodmont
Is Woodmont really #6 in the state? A match against a scrappy BHP side should add to their credibility, or give it a knock.

#8 Eastside vs #1 JL Mann
A win is much needed for the Eastside girls, and Mann is sitting on top of the world, but knows this will be a tough match. Who could've forseen Woodmont ranked higher than Eastside?

#9 TL Hanna vs #5 Wren
Here's the biggun'! Region I finally gets some major respect with two teams ranked in the top 10 since Mauldin and Hillcrest in 2001! It should be a barn burner in Anderson, with the winner taking early control of the Region I race!

Tuesday - 3/31

#1 Bishop England vs #4 Hilton Head
Hilton Head dropped below South Aiken as the #2 seed in the Lower State, but a win over perennial AA power BE could give them a boost in the standings.

#15 Blythewood vs #11 Ridge View
Blythewood needs a win here to stay in the AAAA top 15, but you have to credit coach King for getting his girls in the mix in their first year as a AAAA school. That said, Ridge View is good, really good, and this is a big region match!

#5 Christ Church vs #13 Greenville
Christ Church is off to a strong start and looks to get another win over a ranked AAA opponent when they take on the Lady Red Raiders. Greenville needs a good showing here to stay in the top 15.

#3 Dutch Fork vs Lexington
Lexington unranked??? Wow! A win against the Silver Foxes would be huge, and it's possible, but it will take a valiant effort from the Wildcats to pull off the stunner and get back in the mix for a region title.

#8 Fort Mill vs Nation Ford
Nation Ford has played strong, but is unranked. Fort Mill knows this could be a trap game and will be ready. The Lady Jackets have won the games they were supposed to for it seems like forever.

#7 Irmo vs #14 White Knoll
White Knoll is the worst to first darling of the midlands, and could score a monumental win by toppling the Lady Yellow Jackets tonight. Irmo is very strong and knows a win over the Timberwolves is quality, they won't let this match sneak up on them.

#6 Walhalla vs #14 Daniel
Walhalla came away with a pk win last week, and a big one at that. The rematch could set the tone for these two teams for the rest of the season. Well, at least until playoffs that is...

Wednesday - 4/1

Picture tumblewoods blowing across a parched desert. Little to cover, with few tight match-ups on April Fool's day.

Thursday - 4/2

#7 Swansea vs #12 Brookland Cayce
Swansea can sweep the season series and gain a leg up in region standings with a win here. BC needs to win to have any shot at a region title. Great Midlands match-up!

#6 Woodmont vs #14 Daniel
The region title is on the line. Woodmont won by 2 in the first match, so Daniel will be gunning for goals. Hopefully the embattled Lady Lions will have a full squad this time around and be ready to play.

Friday - 4/3

Rock Hill vs #11 Ridge View
Another chance for Alex Ramsey and Rock Hill to break into the rankings, and another quality opponent standing in their way. Region IV has impressed so far this year, tonight should be no different.

---------------------------

There are countless other quality matches strewn throughout the week, so feel free to add write ups for anything I missed.

Friday - 4/3

Pinewood Prep vs Bishop England
#1 SCISA vs #1 AA - Made even more exciting by the fact that the boys also play that night in a similar matchup of #1 SCISA vs #1 AA. Although the boys play every year - I believe this will be the first matchup for the Girls.

at TL Hanna

#9 TL Hanna 3
#5 Wren 2 PKs

Score was tied 1-1 at halftime. TL Hanna scored from a shot about 25yds out at the 55' mark. Beautiful, high shot from the corner. Wren answered with a similar shot from similar distance at the 79' mark to take the match into overtime. The atmosphere was electric in the final minutes (there was some stoppage time due to injury).

Overtime was even, and TL Hanna made 4pks to Wren's 3 to take a hardfought, Region I win between to top 10 squads.

It was a very fast, physical match. Wren is much improved from their '08 squad, and both teams deserve to stay in top 10 at weeks end!

Ryan, I have to agree with you that Coach Burriss has done a great job with this team. I wondered how they would be without Hannah and I agree with you that this year's team is better than last year's in that these girls play very physical and very disciplined. Their passing is better and their spacing is excellent. I thought both teams played with a great sense of urgency and while we feel very fortunate to win, we know round two at Wren is coming...

Irmo 5-3 White Knoll

Scoring:
21 - I-Warder (Cox)
33 - I-Dherckers (Farnham)
39 - I-Warder (Unassisted)
50 - I-Dherckers (Werdunn, Baxter)
52 - I-Farnham (Warder)
62 - WK-Hale (Unassisted)
75 - WK-Lown (?)
80+ - WK-Lloyd (?)

White Knoll's starting goalkeeper made 4 outstanding saves in the first half to keep the halftime score down to 3-0. She's quite an athlete!

I would like to congratulate Gilbert on their hard fought win last night....they came out ready to play and wanted it more! It was just one of those nights for the Lady Warhorses as nothing could get going on either end.

Prayers go out to Jacalynn Bundrick as it appears to be a serious knee injury, possible ACL tear. Appeared to happen when she tried to pivot and foot got caught in the turf.

Daniel at Woodmont for tonight postponed until 5/4 (girls and boys games).

Not weather related, apparently Woodmont has a school function/trip that affects several soccer players (girls and boys). They requested a postponement.

Interesting that it comes at the last minute and it gives several Woodmont players time to heal...??

Yeah, why was I not informed that Gilbert had Pele's daughter playing striker? Man...she really was amazing to watch! Seriously, she showed great skill and just when you thought she was in full sprint...she took off like a rocket. Please keep the Barnwell crowd posted on her recovery and diagnosis. Our hearts and prayers are to her and her family.

You know, I saw that on Greenville TV Sports last night and never thought to look at the little print to see if that was softball. It probably was. My fault, as the old guys say. My Bad, and the kids say.

In an effort to ensure accuracy, and keep this ship on the right path, I have checked the Mauldin girls' soccer website and discovered that they never planned to play Nation Ford in girls' soccer last night. It is possible that Nation Ford got into a bus, got lost, ended up in Mauldin, lost 6-2, and then went home. It is also possible that the Nation Ford softball team, lost and confused, wandered onto the pitch at Mauldin and got slaughtered as everyone else does who plays Mauldin. But, I am going to guess that the 6-2 score is probably another sport with a smaller ball and two less people. Ssssssooooooorrrryyyyy! I have demanded $1,000 checks for each soccer all star game from the Greenville Sports TV News (station unnamed) for their poor reporting!

My wife just said: "You know you are getting really old when you start quoting your own quotes."

Then my daughter said, "Dad, you are just wierd."

Then I said, "Hey, did you hear that Mauldin beat Nations Ford in softball last night 6-2" and there was silence.

Darn right; we were waiting for a REALLY wet day to play Wando. Figure the best way to slow 'em down is to throw 'em knee deep in mud and hope for the best.

And you're lucky...you only have one daughter telling you that you're weird...I have a team full of players who remind me of that daily.

I've heard that his daughter has called him worse.

Nation Ford! No "s"! Got it Blues Ridge?

Recheck: Dale Jr. taught me last year how to goof up a post and then correct it before many people read it and then just sit there and look semi intelligent.

Did he teach you to change them ALL...the posts, the quotes, and the quotes of the quotes?

dadgumit ... now I have to go back and change the Scoreboard!

I don't want to sound like I am old or anything....Maybe check and see if Mauldin actually played Nations Ford in girls' soccer last night........Is Matlock on yet????!!

In an effort to ensure accuracy, and keep this ship on the right path, I have checked the Mauldin girls' soccer website and discovered that they never planned to play Nations Ford in girls' soccer last night. It is possible that Nations Ford got into a bus, got lost, ended up in Mauldin, lost 6-2, and then went home. It is also possible that the Nations Ford softball team, lost and confused, wandered onto the pitch at Mauldin and got slaughtered as everyone else does who plays Mauldin.

Thanks for asking. Rough so far but may have just turned the corner. Been through swelling, blood clot threat, infection threat, and throwing up pain meds. Not easy, but my steadfast poise is.....actually, I feel pretty helpless and heartbroken. She'll make it, and she'll be tougher for it and probably appreciate everything more now. Amazing to me how many there out there who have been through this.

We have a kid at Hilton Head Prep that just came back from her second one in 8 months. She did the right knee in a basketball game in December of 2007 and then did the left one playing soccer in August of 2008.

At Clover:

Fort Mill 1
Clover 0

Clover wanted this one badly, after losing twice last year on PKs. The Lady Blue Eagles tried hard, but Taylor Parker broke through for a score from a hard angle to the left of the goal at 62:00. Hard-fought contest on both sides.

SA played really good. This was a great game to watch. The refs called a great game, you hardly noticed they were there. No cheap shots for penalties. SA is a classy team, very well coached. Good luck the rest of the year...except, of course, when Dreher goes down to your pitch.

Madi was all the buzz on the sidelines and in the stands. Did an excellent job and we're not looking forward to seeing her again

I heard she asked you to take her home early and took her teeth out to keep you from kissing her goodnight.
