With many 1A schools dropping their programs because of funding (or lack thereof), would it be profitable for there to be one classification for both A and AA schools? Discuss...

If nothing else, it would bring a quality competitor to 2A with Christ Church. It would make the 2A State playoffs a lot more interesting.

That could be done by adding CC to the 2a no matter if there is a 1a division or not.

In 2003, 32 Class 2A schools field boys teams and 16 Class 1A schools field boys squads. According to the SCHSL, the minimum requirement for holding a separate State Championship is for that Classification to have at least 1/3 of its' members fielding a team in that sport. Therefore, that is the reason that Class 1A gets to stage its' own Finals.

Conversely, in Girls Soccer, only 18 Class 2A schools field girls teams and just 7 Class 1A schools field a girls soccer program. Thus, that is why they combine the two Classifications for a State Championship.

I would love to see boys soccer in Class 2A and Class 1A combine once again to form a more balanced competition!

How can you think that combining 1A and 2A would create a more balanced competition? It would be fine for Christ Church and possibly Southside Christian, but every other 1A team would suffer. Yes, they really have no hope of winning a State Championship over CC, now, but at least they get to play in a few more games in the post season. Combining them with 2A would have practically evey 1A team knocked out after the first round, if they even make the playoffs.

Exactly. Darwinism at its' best -- only the strongest will survive (I'm paraphrasing of course). The playoffs should be a REWARD for teams that truly deserve postseason play. It should not be just an extension of the regular season so a team can play a "few more games".

Then why don't we combine all classifications and then we would only have 1 "survivor" at the end of the season?! No... that wouldn't be fair, right? Schools should play against other schools that are their same size and have their same resources. Therefore, 1A and 2A should also be seperate! That's the whole point of the classification system! I think private schools should actually have to play 1 classification higher, simply because their resources are vastly greater than other schools their size.
