Woodruff 5
Southside 0

Woodruff dominated about 60 minutes of this rainy contest. Southside had little offense and they looked a little out of form after their spring break. I do have to give my compliments to southsides #7 he had great footskills and moved the ball extremley well. Back to the game, woodruff came out early on fire hitting the post in the first two minutes and being up 2-0 after 10 minutes of play. Not the best of Woodruff's games but a defiant victory, none the less. Good luck to these teams as they get deeper into AA-Region II games.

The boys soccer matches with South Aiken at Brookland-Cayce (JV - 5:45 pm / Varsity - 7:30 pm) scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 will be postponed due to inclement weather and the condition of the field at The Cage.

The matches will be played Wednesday, April 15 at Brookland-Cayce HS at the same times.

Not completely sure of the score between byrnes and boiling springs. I do know boiling springs won in pk's. I think the final looked like this

Wren boys rolled up a large half time lead against a Westside team that refused to give up. I have to say that there was no quit in their performance tonight and I respect their play. They tied our reserves in the second half and played hard till the finish.

Woodruff controlled the game, and deserved the win, but that was def. one of woodruffs weakest games this season. The boys weren't "gelling" and finding the runs they normally do. We'll see how they rebound from this tommorow night against Palmetto and friday night against Gaffney.

From the Aiken Standard newspaper:

South Aiken 2

Brookland-Cayce 1

No. 3 South Aiken High School picked up a critical region win Wednesday, improving to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the region with a victory over Brookland-Cayce High School. Brady Francis and Lee Quattlebaum scored the goals for South Aiken, while Dan Riley and Allen Grier provided the assists. Chad Christensen had six saves for the T-Breds.

Palmetto 1
Woodruff 2
2-1 @ half

Woodruff controlled the game in the first half. Second half could have gone either way. Woodruff struck first around the 15th min, dylan pressured the goalie and deflected the kick out matt then chipped the shot from around 30 out. Around the 25th minutes matt played a give and go to dylan and finished the break away to go up 2-0. Palmetto then scored around the 35th minute. Game was well played, but rather dirty. Refs were some of the better ones we have had. Good luck to these teams.

Congratulations to Eau Claire on the victory. Another one of those teams that has suffered through a lot lopsided losses in the last several years yet continue to come out and play hard and keep a good attitude.

I second that. Congrats to Eau Claire!

Was at a EC game last year where they were beaten soundly and never showed any sign of getting down or lack of sportsmanship which a lot of teams in the area could learn from, they just kept playing with their heads up. More than one player from our team spoke of how the Shamrocks were still having fun and staying classy in defeat.

I agree about Eau Claire. I officiated one of their matches earlier this season and while you can question some of their tactics, their sportsmanship and hustle was never an issue. A lot of teams can learn about sportsmanship from these guys. Congrats Shamrocks.

Irmo 3-0 with about 3 to play last I saw. 0-0 at half.

SV came out and played well the 1st half but you could tell the from the very start of the 2nd half that Irmo was cranking it up a few notches and SV couldnt match it.

As has been said many times on this board, great teams find a way to win.

Tonight was a night where SV was determined to shape the game and did so for much of the first half as they controlled the midfield and consistently connected with their lone striker, Antoine Parris, who was denied the goal by a strong defensive line and keeper Rob Sullivan. It took most of the half for IRMO to sort things out, but when they did they took their game to another level.

The final 30 minutes of the game was vintage IRMO soccer. Great combination play supported by a relentless desire to find the net.

The first goal came from a blistering strike by Zach Acree from the right corner of the box, followed not long afterwards by a 13 yard or so volley from midfielder, Kyle Simpson. The third goal seemed to me to be an own goal, but may have been a goal by forward Taylor Varney as it was knocked around in the box before finding the net.

Congrats on defeating a worthy competitor tonight. I believe SV can lay claim to being the first team to humble a very talented IRMO squad. SV really played with the determination a team needs to earn a win and they made IRMO dig deeper to get the "W"!

@ Woodruff

4A- Gaffney (3-9) 0
2A- Woodruff (9-2) 1

Woodruff came out looking worn out and beat up. They controlled the game, but had trouble finding the net. Halftime score was 0-0. According to the Spartanburg Herald Journal the gaffney keeper had 14 saves. I was very impressed with how he played throughout the night. A sloppy win for Woodruff but a win none the less. I'm glad the boys could pull out all 4 games as wins this week, becuase in every game they showed their heart and played good soccer. So the boys need to heal up becuase the schedule doesn't get easier from here on out.

It was a gallant effort thru out the weekend by the SC squad and some good memories. High quality soccer. Oak Ridge was a tremendous host and hosted a solid tournament. If economy eases up next year, I would recommend the tournament to any SC school.

Walhalla beat Abbeville 11-1. Walhalla gave up PK in last 10 min. After a long week of tournaments we were able to sit alot of starters and still have a good game of possession.
