CUFC U17 won 2-0 over FCA 92 Black (TN Champ). Both goals coming from Padula throw ins. Leo with the first goal, not sure about the second. I think CUFC has a great shot at moving on to the next stage, facing TN, AL, and AR in their bracket. When these boys come out to play, they put on a good show. They're well-coached and very fun to watch. I can't wait to see how they do.

I'm also really anxious to see how the DSC 90 team fares. Those boys can play some ball. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see them take it home.

Best of luck to all the SC teams.

Update on the CESA Premier 92 Boys:

Our guys played a near perfect game yesterday afternoon. Perfect weight on passes, simple creativity with penetrating diagonal runs in the final third combined with excellent defensive play across the pitch. A little luck with the shots made on frame and where having a completely different conversation.

It's difficult to appreciate the skill required to play so fast and with such simplicity without actually seeing it, but the best of the game was certainly on display yesterday afternoon by these two teams today.

In the end, it was NTX with the header of a 50/50 ball in the box.

Great job guys and best of luck today vs Celtic of OK . . . another outstanding opponent.

Final- DSC 3 Tulsa 1
Dennis Moore with an excellent performance with 2 goals. Enzo with one. DSC went up 2-0 shortly after the second half, Tulsa pulled within one. But then Enzo closed it out. They play the Houston Clips(I think thats their name) tomorrow at 9 I believe. The Clips beat the Texans in Pk's. Should be another awesome game. I wont be near a computer tomorow to give an update though. Anyways, well done boys 2 more.

Tulsa went up first in the first half and was leading 1-0.
Two hard shot goals by Dennis Moore for DSC to take the lead in the 2nd half Defense played great led by Taylor Grim, Aaron Mayes, Tyler Vukoder and Robbie Benson to shut down opportunities that Tulsa(two time Regional Champ) had at multiple corner kicks.

Enzo was subbed out briefly at the bottom of the 2nd half as he played midfield since Alex got injured with an ankle issue in the first half on a hard foul. The sub gave Enzo some additional energy to put the game away 3-1. DSC will play Eclipse 91, the North Texas premier league champions who went and played 30 minutes of overtime and won on the 6th penalty kick.

Is the Eclipse 91 TX North or TX South? We are getting conflicting reports?

Also, how does this Texas team stack up against the one that Discoveries scored 7 goals on in pool play?

Good job Dennis Moore and all the DSC boys!

Bonz,

Was that their last match in pool play or was that the result in today's quarterfinal?

No shame in losing to a North Texas team, especially when they are virtually playing at home.

CESA Premier 92 Boys defeated Lakeview (LA Champ) this afternoon 3-1 and earned a place vs Eclipse at 11:30 tomorrow in the Semifinals.

Goals:
#1 First Half: Own Goal Lakeview

#2 First Half: Garbonzo / Birkholder
This goal was identical to the one Garbonzo hit for NW vs IRMO in the finals but he was 12 to 15 years out as Brandon Birkholder served the ball in from the right side of the pitch. A fantastic finish.

#3 Second Half: Lunceford / Burnikel
Near the end of the second half, Alex Burnikel made a great run into the final third from his right back position which signaled Lunceford to make a run splitting the defenders as Burnikel played the perfect ball to his feet. The keeper came off his line and Lunceford tucked the ball away to the near side kissing it off of the post for the goal.

Congrats on advancing to the semis and earning a place in the National League.

Best of luck tomorrow!

Eclipse(whom we later clarified is S. Texas PL champion) was runner up to the South Texas state championship team that mutiny defeated earlier 7-2. However, watching them today they are quick and appear to be a more superior team than the previous TX team.

Congrats also to the the CESA 92 team who have had to play at the hottest part of the day this whole tournament.

Wow, 4-0 in the semis..

Don't want to get ahead of myself here...but has any SC team won a national championship in the past? I know the Aiken Fire lost in the final one year. Wasn't there a girls team that won it all?

CESA 92 Premier defeated South Texas Champion Eclipse by a score of 2-0.

Goal #1 First Half: Garbonza / Lunceford
Dillon Wolfinger played a ball to Lunceford from the back who turned and quickly slotted a perfectly weighted diagonal ball to the feet of Garbonzo who penetrated the defenders drawing the keeper off his line for a nice shot on the ground to the back post.

Goal #2 Second Half: Garbonzo / Burkholder
A flip throw by Burkholder across the box allowed Garbonzo to strike again from roughly eight yards out on the diagonal off the back post. Another beautiful finish as Garbonzo ripped the shot with what is becoming his signature finish . . . another side volley.

Outstanding saves and great defending in all thirds of the pitch by a highly dedicated team who plays for each other.

The win today advances CESA Premier 92 Boys to the Final at 10:30 tomorrow morning where they get another crack at the NTX Champs, Dallas Texans.

As a Southern Regional Finalist, the team will travel to Boston in late July for National competition.

Great stuff boys and best of luck tomorrow boys. We're very proud of you!

Well done, Mutiny!

Mutiny cruises into title match
http://www.heraldonline.com/news/sports/story/1430227.html

DALLAS -- Enzo Martinez and Ralph Lundy each scored a pair of goals and led the Discoveries Soccer Club 90 Green Mutiny 18-U team to a 4-2 win over the Eclipse 91 Black from Texas in Tuesday's semifinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region III Championships.

The win pushed the Mutiny to 5-0 in the tournament and moved them within a victory of advancing to the national championship tournament July 21-26 in Lancaster, Mass.

The Mutiny, based in Rock Hill, plays the 91 Norcross (Ga.) Fury Gold at 9:45 a.m. today to see who moves on. They met in the fall and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Congrats to the boys. Hope they can carry the momentum through the finals. Why is it that DSC 90 is playing 91 age group teams? Not trying to bash at all, just curious.

GA teams classify differently, using the January 1 year.

Kids are still the same age.....born on/after August 1.

Congrats DSC 90.

CESA defeats defending National League Champ and NTX Champ Dallas Texans by scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the first overtime.

Goal #1 Garbonzo / Burnikel
Burnikel attacking out of the right back position served a great ball to Garbonzo who took a point blank shot which the keeper was unable to control allowing Garbonzo just enough space to punch it into the corner of the goal.

Goal #2 Perez / Burkholder
Burkholder loose at the top of the 18 struck a line drive to the left side of the net, which was redirect just enough by forward Perez to throw the Texan keeper off balance allowing the goal.

This Region Championship is the first for CESA.

Congratulations to these boys for their tremendous dedication to each other and desire to be the best.

Great stuff!

12 champions in Region III and only one team from Texas?

South Carolina has more R3 champions than Texas?

The regionals were held in North Texas?

Right....I suppose I'm also supposed to believe that the US beat Spain in the semi-finals of the Confed Cup!

I was up to 3: Sanford, Dempsey and Clark (although not sure the precise definition of "alumni" & not sure if the players actually graduated)

Wasn't the "Governor" a cheerleader at Furman? If so, maybe he was just referring to the old Furman University Christian Knights synonym cheer with the Argentine - "LET'S GO fill in the bold letters".

Furman University - Paladins - Christian Knights

The "synonym" cheer.....or the "acronym" cheer?
