i understand if the player is starting for their varsity team its the players who i think get nothing out of jv soccer or sittin on varsity when they could be competing for state and regional titles with their club team. its all about development at this age and playing against poor teams or sitting on the bench doesnt get you that.

PFBU,

There's an NC1, NC2....and CASL? CASL stands alone and fields their own team?

Many states field more than one ODP team in order to get additional exposure for their state players. It really has to do with the number of players available in the state system. (Fla has 3, Texas 4, GA 2...) And not all states seem to have the exact same requirements for selecting players/teams to represent their state.

I believe CASL was playing to get primed for their upcoming R3PL tournement. It is important to note that there are 2 or 3 national team players on their age mixed team. They are a very polished team and emerged undefeated at the end of the weekend.

SC played them this afternoon and tied 0-0. (A clear victory for SC as CASL was expected to clobber them as they did the NC ODP teams). They went straight to an informal PK session where one SC player missed putting the ball on frame - so technically CASL won 5-4 in PKs.

The 'mini-camp' was a huge success for the SC 95 ODP team. Coach Marinatos and Joyce have done a great job as well as the players' club coaches to develop these players into one of the strongest teams in recent history from SC. Because of how well they performed last year at the region 3 camp, and the results from this past weekend, they will very likely be placed in the highest flight at regionals in Tuscaloosa next month.

There are a multitude of variables when it comes to youth sports: One thing is for certain - it will be hot and humid in Alabama in July...
