As a Brit (who has seen Gazza, Beckham, and Rooney all receive cards due to baiting and then play-acting by opponents), I can tell you that the USA needs to learn from this experience. I hate it but the USA has to learn to play the refs too. They had three red cards in this tournament - all straight reds. Today when it was 1-0 Charlie Davies was 1 v 1 with a Brazilian defender coming at him from the side. He clipped him and if Davies had gone down - it was a red for their center half. Instead he stayed on his feet but was forced wide and eventually got a corner. There is no way Kaka or Robinho misses that opportnity to get the opposition down to 10 men.
Spain and Italy kick you down and then lean over and offer you their hand to get you off the ground and keep the refs cards in his pocket. It's sad, but the US better wake up to this gamemanship. England is no better, but hopefully with Capello as the head coach, he's giving drama lessons during training.
