Furman’s Alexa Jones Named To Top Drawer Soccer Team Of The Week
Greenville, S.C. -- Furman University sophomore Alexa Jones has been named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Team-of-the-Week after pouring in five goals in the Paladins’ first two matches, including a record setting four-goal performance against Presbyterian, it was announced on Monday.
Jones, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., followed her season-opening goal in Furman’s 3-0 victory over USC Upstate last Monday by tying the Furman and Southern Conference single-game records with four goals in a 6-2 win over Presbyterian on Friday night. The striker came off of the bench to bag a pair of goals in the opening half that included the eventual game-winner before adding two more in the opening 20 minutes of the second half.
She joined former Paladins Melissa Sutton and Danielle Petro as the only Furman standouts to notch four goals in a match. Jones also became the first Paladin since 2006 to record at least three goals in a match.
Furman, 2-0 on the season, begins a seven-match road trip when it travels to face Jacksonville University on September 4, at 7 p.m.
