I heard the match was more than spirited, supposedly there was an all out brawl that required the police. Anyone got details?

Pinewood won when it mattered and will be in the SCISA 3A State Championship for the 7th year in a row.

It was a very spirited match. Hammond played very, very well but simply could not create enough scoring opportunities.

Green Acres, you heard the grossly-hyperbolic version of events. A single Hammond player momentarily lost his composure after the match and "jumped" a Pinewood player. The officials and coaches did a great job preventing "an all out brawl." There was no law enforcement involvement nor was there need for any. The Hammond player was red-carded for his post-match conduct. He did appear sincere in his contrition when he apologized to Pinewood coaches before boarding the Hammond bus. He's a very talented player who let his frustration over a tough loss get the better of him.

From the start of the season, to the state championship final, this very young Pinewood team has grown a lot.

This team consisted of 2 8th graders, 5 freshmen, 2 sophomores, 7 juniors, and 2 seniors.

With the seniors graduating and new players coming in, on top of the state championship experience the younger players were able to endure, I'm looking forward to seeing how they turn out next season.

Through the past 7 championships, the game played on Saturday was seen to be the toughest of them all. Great efforts by Cardinal Newman.
