The Lake Murray Challenge coming up next week looks to be very competitive with some of the best teams in the state. Any thoughts/predictions?

The Darlington squad I've seen play over the past year should not be taken for granted by any of the teams next weekend as they're quite capable.

If they bring they're top players, I'll say they'll be among the top four teams on Saturday.

The weekend should be a great start to the season.

Last years team was the best overall fall or spring but this year is a different story. Northwestern will have to step it up if they want to see the championship game after tonight's performance.

IRMO - 4
Greenwood - 0

The Greenwood keeper made some very nice saves as IRMO mounted a relentless attack during the whole match tonight. IRMO possessed well across all thirds to create many chances throughout the match.

First half IRMO keeper, Rob Sullivan, snuffed out the best chance Greenwood had on the night as he came off of his line to block a shot from inside the upper right area of his box.

Well done boys.

Props to the Chapin Keeper, Jason, who made three saves during PK's vs Fort Mill to advance to play IRMO. Jason also had a great save in the upper right corner on an IRMO volley from 25 yards.

Joey DeMare connected on a PK and on a nice shot from the left side of the box duinrg the second half. It's hard to believe so many of the Chapin players just played their last game on the IRMO pitch as they are seniors. Best of luck to those boys during their final season.

IRMO will play Northwestern at 2pm @ Chapin on Sunday.

IRMO vs Darlington

IRMO controlled possession during the first 15 minutes and then started playing VERY sloppy offensively but still managed to create way more chances than Darlington during the half. But, it was Darlington who managed to slip a goal in during the first half.

After being read the riot act during the half IRMO came out focused on taking care of the ball. With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation Lunceford played a ball from the right side of the pitch to Acree who beat two, maybe three defenders on the dribble and finally the keeper for what was a fantastic goal to tie the game.

Both teams raised their levels during the extra periods, but the match would go to PK's only to have Acree, Lunceford and Nobels all hit the post from the mark while Darlington netted each of their shots for the win.

And so it went for the Yellow Jackets during the first match of the day. We were glad to see they didn't bring the performance from the first half of this one to the Chapin match.

It's to early to make any assumptions at this moment. Although im sure Irmo's depth helped them alot more than Northwestern's did throughout the tournament. It was also more like a home field advantage for Irmo.

IRMO - 3
Northwesten - 1

Today, hundreds of IRMO Nation fans saw a glimpse of what to expect this season as the composure from ALL players produced a great exhibition of tactical soccer on a crowned pitch during the 2010 Lake Murray Challenge Final.

In the first minute the IRMO defense would make a huge mistake and miss the clearance of a ball to Garbanzo leaving Sullivan to clear it away. Instead, Garbanzo would be taken down in the box leaving Keeper Stephen Arneson to face Garbanzo who netted the PK as Arneson got a hand on the ball for the near save.

IRMO fought back to score on a set piece between Lunceford and Rogers roughly fifteen minutes after the NW goal leaving the two teams tied 1-1 at the halfway mark.

Unlike the 2009 State Final where NW came out and handed it to IRMO, this time it was IRMO who controlled the tempo generating two more goals.

Goal number two came from a Lunceford cross and great one time finish from 10 yards out by Matt Sieverding.

Goal number three came from a ball sent into the area by Zach Acree which was finished by sophomore Matt Manter.

Sophomores, Connor Dunbaker, Matt Freeman, Joe Bivona, Matt Manard and Josh Jenkins all played huge roles in the win today and throughout this pre-season tournament.

IRMO has great depth and a tremendous fan base going into the seaosn.

Stats:
Goal: AJ Rogers, Assist: Emmett Lunceford
Goal: Matt Sieverding, Assist: Emmett Lunceford
Goal: Matt Manter, Assist: Zach Acree
MVP: Emmett Lunceford

Nice recap Manchester. Great game to watch as it was competitive and full of energy. Hats off to those Northwestern fans who traveled with their team and showed great sportsmanship! OMHO I don't think this years NW team comes close to last years team. I'm sure they'll work out alot before State Championship time. Will be interested to see when NWHXCOACH posts stats how many SOG that NW ended up with. Don't think they came anywhere near their usual offensive attack. Great weekend of soccer!

Greenwood did not have all starters in the Irmo or the Hammond game. Some players that started in the Hammond game were freshman JV players.

any time i heard "irmo soccer" only great things come to mind. excelent soccer program. it reminds me of home. the passion and the tradition for soccer among irmo soccer players is something you dont see very often in the usa, is special.

congratulations. this program deserve this and more.

i dont think any other high school soccer program in the nation can match that, northwestern is also another great program.

good luck the reason of the season. looking forward to watch the rematch in the state final.

"Almost" perfect--except the Hammond pick and the final game that went Irmo's way! Outstanding play by Irmo is a very "chippy" game.

And "Hammond disappointed"???--you obviously did not see
any of the Hammond games this weekend. They were impressive IMHO in the games that I saw--Coach Pinasco has these guys playing well and it appears to be CN and Hammond in the drivers seat in SCISA with Pinewood in an early season funk.
But i will give you "Dutch Fork disappointed"--tough weekend for the young team of Coach Woodward's.

darlington had to play irmo then northwestern in the same day within hours after a very hard fought match with hammond the night before!!! thats insane to ask a team to perform at the level and intensity needed to beat both after that rigorous schedule. darlington was dead with barely three subs(one being the back up keeper) for the nw game and looked like/was a completely different team! riddle solved

1ST; "unskilled and bad" are plainly stupid things to say about NHS D.

A closer look does seem to indicate that thay will be tested much more thins year. Last year they were so busy scoring goals that they rarely got a serious test. They are not going to score as much this year, IMHO. Last year they beat Dreher 8-0 this year only 4-1.

The numbers from the Irmo game seem to show a pretty good domination by IRMO: shots 5 vs 16, corners 1 vs 8, and the only goal managed by NHS was a PK. While I am sure they will still win most everything they are no longer the 800# gorillia in the room.

As exciting as an IRMO vs NW State Championship rematch would be, NW will be fortunate to make it that far as they are just a bit better than average right now.

They lost a huge portion of their defensive prowess, not to mention the offensive threat Enzo brought to the team. They will likely have to play long balls over the top more often than usual in an attempt to get Garbanzo the ball who is always a threat.

Granted, this was a preseason tournament and things can change but they do have their work cut out for them to repeat.

Greenwood's forwards showed a strong sense of conviction and a promising remainder of talented athletes, who, with a good amount of dedication and work can pull off a miracle comprable to that of rudy and the 1980's US mens hockey team

. Alright I have heard multiple stories on why Simpson and Mikey weren't able to play. Is it true Mikey is suspended for 10 games? I heard he had a little dispute in the classroom about the teacher telling him to give up his phone and he refused so the teacher emailed Coach and he suspended him for 10 games???? That's what I heard. Anybody know? And what about Simpson too.

Dutch Fork has a very young team. A senior (Tim Byrd) broke his leg Saturday morning against Dreher. Isaah Etheridge no longer attends Dutch Fork. Woodward has maybe 2 great players and has a long, hard road looking at him this season.

Dutch Fork has a very young team. A senior (Tim Byrd) broke his leg Saturday morning against Dreher. Isaah Etheridge no longer attends Dutch Fork. Woodward has maybe 2 great players and has a long, hard road looking at him this season.

Tough break for DF, but wasn't Etheridge on the SC United U18 team? Why isn't he playing for DF?

I completly agree brosefus. #16 from Darlington was amazing. He was definitly the best player in the tournament. He told me he signed with Creighton who is #4 in the country.

I heard he is no longer in school period. Don't know how or why since I think he is a class of 2010 student.

Did he graduate early or transfer schools?

Spoke to Kyle's mother at the NW game. She said he had an ankle injury that they wanted to heal before the regular season started.

Who are you talking about? Mike Day? Isaiah?

Thanks for the support Baller Shot caller. How about my thoughts on greenwood? What your opinion? Miracle or No?

It does suck to hear that a school wouldnt reinstate isiah, he could of been a little of a chance for dutch fork soccer to have a chance against irmo.. Mike day was suspended for 6 games. He was irresponsible but has learned from that. He is back on the team and will be playing for the remander of the season if he stays out of trouble.. Kyle simpson had an ankle injury from the greenwood game. Cant wait to see the Irmo squad with all their starters on the field!
