Unless there's some goofy HS rule to the contrary, scores of games decided by kicks from the spot don't change. A 0-0 game doesn't become 1-0, it's still 0-0.

Actually, it is kind of "goofy", but those are the S.C. High School League stipulations since "no match may end in a tie". Thus, if an overtime session is played then the match is recorded as a Win or a Loss. If it proceeds straight to penalty kicks to determine a "bracket winner/advancement", - i.e., tournament play - then it is registered as a tie. End of subject.

To be honest, it is about as "goofy" as referring to girls soccer as "Ladies" or "Women" - it's "Girls" in the prep ranks and youth soccer. When they go to college or all become 18 - i.e., military recognition - then the referral of "Ladies" or "Women" can be used. Boys and Girls in high school, though!

Coach: I understand a need to determine a winner for the sake of simplicity of standings, etc. My quibble is with the scoreline. Winning a game through kicks from the spot does not (or should not) change the score of the game. 0-0 is still 0-0, even though one team gets credit for a win.

Well, simply put: IT IS WHAT IT IS!

SCSoccer.com will continue to record "W/L" for overtime matches decided by penalty kicks and "T" for matches tied at the end of regulation that go straight to PKs. That is the way our state (not North Carolina or others) "powers" (ADs) see fit. Feel free to come up with your own record system.

FWIW, when the rankings are considered, matches that are decided by PKs, regardless of OT or not, are considered draws anyway.

South Pointe 2 Ridge View 0. Congrats to SP #12 is a player. However, that was the worst officiated game I have seen all year. I believe RV had 7 yellow cards and SP had 0. One player got 2 , the coach got one and one player got one for putting a thumbs up to the official. I hope nobody has to put up with those two. They were brutal!!!

Coach: As I said, I have no problem with reporting results as you do, and my comments aren't directed at scsoccer. My question/issue is with the practice of what amounts to awarding a goal to a team that wins in kicks from the spot (another pet peeve - if no foul has been committed, it isn't a penalty kick - but that's admittedly a bit pedantic). For example, if Aiken beats White Knoll in kicks after tying 2-2, the proper result is 2-2 Aiken wins in pk's (I surrender) 4-3. The scoreline of the game doesn't become 3-2.

Just noticed the horse was dead - so I'm done. Cheers.
